Title: STICKY: How to upload images to the forum!
Post by: Evan Bottcher on March 28, 2006, 11:15:59 AM
To attach images to a post, click on the "Additional Options" link below where you type your message.  This shows an "Attach" box and you click the "Browse..." button to select a file to attach.  If you want to add more images, click "(more attachments)" and more spaces will be added for you to add pictures.  You are limited to 4 attachments per post, and must add up to less than 256kb.

To make your images smaller use your favorite image editing program to shrink them down.  I recommend a size no wider than 640 pixels to fit comfortably on this forum.  Save the resized image as a JPEG image and you will easily fit 4 attachments in 256kb.

Hope this helps - let me know if you need further help!

You can also up load the pictures too somewhere like www.photobucket.com which is free then just copy the .img code and post in with your text, that way it will show up in the post with out having too click and open it.

That's a good suggestion Lars - it also saves the club on storage costs.  I use flickr.com also.

My latest suggestion if you want to upload a large number of images - install the free image gallery software Picasa from http://picasa.google.com/.  It's free, and very good for managing your image collection on your PC.  You can also select a set of photos to upload to an online gallery (on http://picasaweb.google.com).  It's the quickest way to upload a large number of photos.

You can then link to the gallery from the forum.

Just a quick note that might help when posting from Flickr  - it's not super clear to non denizens of the internet how to link a picture inline in a post...

Open the image in Flickr,  click the share button (square with an arrow heading out of it), choose the 'Pin' option and select a size in the drop down list.   One of the 'small' sizes is usually fine.

copy the link code and just paste it in your post as is (no need to hit the Image or URL button in your post)    It'll look like this...

and show up like this...  (which readers can click on for the full size image)

Having trouble bringing in a single photo which was taken on mini IPad. Unable to crop or make file size smaller as there appears to be no such options in the iPad photo gallery. iPad setting do not have size options either. Any ideas? Mickl

I have the same issue with my iPad. I use this website:

http://www.picresize.com

Browse your device and select the image you want to use.
Click continue and it should bring you to a new page.
Select the '50% smaller' option.
Then click the 'Im done' button.
Finally click 'View image' and save it to your iPad.

Then you will be able to upload the picture. It's a bit of a lengthy process, so I recommend uploading your picture to another website, as listed above then just link it here.

Cheers, Andrew.

Thanks Andrew. The pic resize part worked well but I had a lot of difficulty in saving it back to my photo library. The only way I could do it wad to email it to myself, then save it and bingo it was done. Managed to then post picture and request in the alfetta section. Thanks again.

For PC users the simplest method to reduce the file size is to select the image/photo, right mouse click in the drop down menu and select "Send to" then press "Mail recipient". This will open a mail dialogue screen with the attached image. Drag and drop the attachment back onto the selected file and press save. The new image should then be reduced to the required size and ready for uploading.
