yeah sure, just keep on telling yourself that !  :'(

Seriously though, are you going to turn one of them into a track car?

Is this as bad as people collecting Giulietta's?

Yeah, the plan is to turn one of them into a track car.  I'd been tempted to start stripping the old one out, but it's too nice a road car, but now I can have the best of both worlds.  Or the worst.....You'll all be sorry when I'm passing your arses.

Classics I tells ya 8)

Your lucky Sheldon.  I was bidding on that.  Might well have pushed you to $650 if I'd been on the ball  !!!

In defence of the 90, thats a lot of Alfa V6 engine for under $700.00.   I've paid more than that as an annual rego premium on my old Landcruiser  ;D

Even though you have seemingly cornered the Alfa 90 market, I haven't seen prices rise yet.....

Oh they'll rise eventually.  I hope. :-\

Seriously though, the thing was a bargain.  $600, it's done 170k kms.   For the first 3 years it was owned by Alfa Romeo Australia and did 70k, but was serviced religiously.  In the last 15 years it's had two owners who've done 100k between them, and again serviced it every six months regardless of how many kms the car had done.  I've got about $20k worth of receipts, including a timing belt change 10,000km ago, plus a set of konis on the front.

And the thing is in extremely good condition, plus its got the briefcase.  I was gonna sell the briefcase, sold the last one for $250 in a day on the alfaBB, but now thinking want to keep the car complete.

I honestly don't understand why people don't like them.  Okay it's not the most attractive Alfa ever made, but come on, for $600 you're getting the same drive as a GTV6, slightly softer but more comfortable on the road, plus every conceivable extra.  All the electrics work on the new car, even the electric seats, and the aircon even works!!!!

And considering the standard old 90 was only half a second behind a Brera 3.2 (with upgraded suspension) at Winton, I reckon that's a small price to pay for a pretty decent car.

And I hate to admit it but the looks are growing on me.  I'm probably in the minority but I prefer the 90 to the 75.

AND Scott, I was only (only! ::)) 1.5 seconds behind you at Winton.  A set of yellow Konis and I might just keep up with you.  My car might not look as good, but as they say "you don't look at the mantelpiece when you're stoking the fire".

They say that do they?   ???

I've only briefly driven Sheldon's other 90 - such a comfortable limousine of a car with that amazing v6 out front.  I'd happily have one and am kicking myself badly for not taking the option on this one.  I mean it's a HELL of a lot of car for such a small price.

Attached the photos of Sheldon's new car from ebay for posterity...

Cheers Evan.

This would be a very boring club if we all coveted just the one model.

It would be like a Cobra club.  Or an MX-5 club.

Not that I've got anything against Cobras.

ha ha very true!!

Although this one shows me what a bargain I got with the blue one.  Unfortunately, also shows me I got ripped off on the grey one.  At the time I thought I did really well getting it down from $3000 to $1500!  And it was nowhere near as good as the new one.  Then again, it's been very reliable, and seems to have a very healthy engine.

And has given far more than $1500 worth of fun.

All kiddig aside, you'd be hard pressed to find better motoring value anywhere and to have a proper drivers car is more then just an added bonus.
All that is required is to bild up the skin to a thickness that bounces off all the usual 90 comments.

Hate to say it, but the results left off my the whole of my first run with a 1:14.62, another second quicker..........yes, it's hard to beat the awesome 90hp (flywheel) of overheating, unmodified fury of the "Blue Thunder"..........and I'm not sure how any car can look worse, have you had a close look at it?

In any case your 90 fetish should be the stuff of some anthropological study by say Melb Uni.  I'm sure there is someone's thesis right there.

Okay so the challenge is on.

I foolishly have accepted (or initiated, I can't remember which) a death race, pitting the legendary IRONSIDES (that would be my slightly sad grey 90 pictured a few  posts ago) against the legendary BLUE THUNDER, the blue Alfetta as driven by Scott Farquharson.  With only 90hp at the flywheel.  (ahem).  Excuse me.

The challenge is to post the best time at Phillip Island in August.  Considering that last time we were at PI in the same cars Scott was 9 seconds faster than me I may have some work to do.  Kindly, Scott has allowed me a few modifications.  I think I may need only one.....

Sheldon, are you aware that despite driving IRONSIDES all the way up to Bathurst and taking that excellent photo of her on Brocky's hill on Skyline, Mt Panorama that the Bathust council have just gone and painted over the entire wall and covered all the 00's of personal messages to Brock after his death?

Bizarre behaviour.  At least you have the photo to remember the trip, the man, the venue and old IRONSIDE when you try to make up 9 sec a lap @ P.I. on Scott.

Oh, that's criminal.  There were thousands of messages on there, that's very sad to hear.

Here's some of them.

It's only 9 sec's - I am feeling threatened....
Title: Re: Sheldon cornering market of Alfa 90
Post by: Sheldon McIntosh on April 20, 2007, 03:20:31 PM
That's it whitesuit, talk it up.  9 secs is nothing around PI.......

I'm thinking that my second time there, just in track knowledge I might pick up,  ohhhh, I dunno, about 0.7 of a second?  1.2 at the most maybe.  Only 8 secs left to find.

Of course Scott you realise I'm painting my car blue next month, putting in a roll cage, and a few other bits and pieces.  It'll end up looking a bit like Robin's car actually.  He's even agreed to share his race number with me for the day.  Good guy Robin.

I hope we are still doing this.....I think we should be gridded up on the front row, the national anthem sung and then the Australian flag dropped....

The flag........or the losers pants!
Title: Re: Sheldon cornering market of Alfa 90
Post by: Sheldon McIntosh on July 13, 2007, 05:25:54 PM
Damn, I'd hoped you'd forgotten all about it.

That would be national anthem(s) wouldn't it?  I'll let you wave the Aussie flag since it's your home track.  Yes!!  Even if you win we still have the return fixture at Manfield in NZ, my home track.  Just like the Bledisloe.

I'd be happy with a grid start.

I assume you've done nothing to Blue Thunder?  I know you Aussies never cheat at anything..... (can I underarm the car all the way around the track?)

Can't wait.  That'll be in September then, not August as first advertised.  You bringing Blue Thunder to Winton beforehand, or are you gonna have Group S at last?

Forgotten?  Nah, this will be the highlight of my season hands down....I can't wait...we should talk to Neil about the start...photo shoot, interviews, this is big!

Red car hopefully at Winton.  Might try and bring Blue Thunder up anyway - maybe you can have a drive.....and feel the power....
Title: Re: Sheldon cornering market of Alfa 90
Post by: Sheldon McIntosh on July 13, 2007, 05:43:10 PM
Can't wait.....

......for the challenge, and the drive in Blue Thunder, of course you can drive Ironsides as well.  Reckon you can handle her, she's quite temperamental?  We could possibly end the argument there and then, but that'd be no fun would it, I'll have more mods to do before PI!!  Pants down okay with you?
Title: Re: Sheldon cornering market of Alfa 90
Post by: Scott Farquharson on July 13, 2007, 06:00:51 PM
I think that should be in the sup-regs - no pants!  I'll have the white suite modified such...

I think Winton will just whet the appetite for the big one and lets face it Winton is too restrictive for these wild beasts - they need to be unleashed in the open space of PI......

Too true, the 90 spins the wheels up till 5th gear, Winton's hopeless.  I Imagine Blue Thunder is much the same.

Bring on The Island!
