Title: (My) New 73 105 GTJ 1600 (2000)
Post by: Ursus on May 30, 2010, 01:49:06 PM
Hello all,

My name is Joel and this is my 105 recently bought from Adam on here.
I have had her for a few weeks but have now managed to find time to clean and take pics of her, so this is my introduction.

Been wanting a 105 for some years since I test drove one for sale in VIC about 5 years ago. The 2000 in this is a lot of fun.

Chassis number AR 2206615
Alfa Romeo GT 1600 Junior RHD (115.05)
Manufactured on the 28th September 1973 and sold on the 9th October 1973 to Alfa Romeo  Australia .
Hawthorn white (Bianco Spino), with black tex interiors.

Looking for some Minilite/superlites as an option while I get these wheels back to their original colour. They are a strange gold/off white at the moment.
If anyone is selling some please let me know.

Thanks and I will be joining the club soon.

Joel

Hey Joel, careful with that car mate. Never park it at the Gold Coast. You'll cause a Meter Maid riot to see who's gonna feed the meter for ya first.  ;D

Nice one son.

Argh!

My GTJ got the full force of a Kia Grand Carnival towbar while parked today. It took out the passenger side grille and has quite badly dented what looks to be pretty structural steel next to the light by the radiator. Anyone know any quality body places in Melbourne? Got Rankins recommend by Maranello. Fingers crossed tomorrow.

Welcome to the Club Ursus, however condolences on the recent mishap :-\..............bloody tow bars!
I hope this hasn't taken the shine off the ownership (no pun intended) and you can get this little beauty back on the road looking better than ever very soon!

You will have no problems and no worries with Rankins, highly recommended, all my cars are done by Paul, along with other members.

Stop by Monza Motors too for a chat with Hugh, 4 Malvern St, same road as Rankins, you will see it, it has all the Alfa's at the front.

Quite unfortunate, hopefully easily fixable.
I've been checking these guys out for wheels (http://www.18racing.com/wheels.html (http://www.18racing.com/wheels.html)), still gotta save for them though!
You'd be after the RB series wheels.
they are much better prices than some wheels in aus, not sure on shipping rates.

Went to see Paul today and he thinks it'll be a few grand at least but fixable. The GTJ grille seems pretty hard to find but went to see Hugh after and he had a set so all good!

Those wheels don't look bad!?! What I hate is the Performance version here with the huge round plate in the middle. However A 105 at Hugh's has a lovely set of Alfaholics GTA rims so now I have those on the brain. Dammit!

Hey Joel,

Heart skipped when I saw your ill-fortune.  The guys as usual have recommended the very best care to get the car back on the road.

I priced some GTA rep wheels direct from Alfaholics in 2007, from memory it was the postage that killed it.  I believe Stuckey Tyres had a dew available for sale though- they are on Sydney Road in Brunswick near Maranello.

Sorry to hear Joel.

Last time I checked Vin Sharp also has stock of the GTA wheels - just the 14" from memory, but check with him.

Thanks all. Will check with Vin.

Now that I'm considering my bodywork etc. Does anyone know the rules on lighting rear number plates in AUS, and also how people have managed this with no bumpers on? Pics anyone?

I'm intrigued. Not decided completely on bumperless yet, but might get them reconditioned while they are off as the front one is a little mangled now so will be driving without.

Thanks in advance.

Not sure on the rules, but you could get one of these: http://www.alfaholics.com/2010/07/gta-rear-numberplate-light-plinthe-150/

Yeah I know of those, thanks Evan.

Wanted to try and solve it with a less 'GTA-esque' option.

I suppose that would be similar to this?
Hard to see in that pic, although this seems to have something else going on too.

Dropped the GTJ off to Paul this morning. Should be back within a week.

Can't wait. Might have to get the wheels ordered for a full 'relaunch'.

Bumpers are off and being reconditioned.

Front section is repaired and Paul is repainting some bad delamination on the rear arch.

Just wondering if these things above the number plate are original. Kind of reflectors. Anyone know?

My guess is that is where the top bolt holes for the big Italian numberplate holder would have been. I had something similar on my Super.

I know what you mean. Just don't have a spare 1k at the moment.

Was thinking the globe style wheels were semi-Cromodora so therefore period. Also Minilites are pretty period. Maybe just not in black. (thanks Ads!)

I would go the globe style wheels in preference to the 'rat' look with the black rims.

You are right IMO, the globes give that cromodora look without the cost.

I got a set for my Super years ago when the cromies' weren't available (unless you bought a car a set on it!)

Cheers.

Here's a post re another alternative - Saab 15" steels. Very similar look for a fraction of the coin...

haha, thank you mate!  as you can see i am still a bit attached to the old girl, hope she is a bit better now.

if you like minilites there is the chepaer superlite alternative, which are much cheaper.  i think the healey factory once sold them, not sure if they still do, but they should be easy enough to find.

Cheers ads.
Thinking along the lines of the Globes now as I almost have hold of some. Liking the classic black/sliver look but I'm sure this will change!
Photoshop makes the choice easier somehow.

A very nice looking 105. IMO the GTJs were the best looking of all - maybe excepting the GTAs of course. By the way, don't listen to MD; a meter maid riot sounds OK to me.
Enjoy driving it.

Got some 14x6 gold Cosmics in the end. I quite like the retro rally look of them.

I actually have to sell the car now as I need something more sensible for work.
Pm if interested anyone.
