Title: Centenary Celebration event at PI March 13-14
Post by: Neil Choi on February 17, 2010, 10:49:42 PM
Dear all

Just an update on entries to the centenary celebration event.  If you have entered, thank you and looking forward to seeing you all there on the Island.

If you are holding off or thinking about it, don't wait too long as places are filling out and you could miss out as we are limited by track density.

It is going to be a fantastic two days on the Island with only Alfa's on the track.  This is a once in a life time event.

Furthermore if you are not competing but can come down and help to officiate, especially in the flags area, we will be most appreciative, of course we will be looking after you.

If you know of anyone willing to officiate, please let me know also.

Once again, now is the time to send in your entry as the event is only a few weeks away and we will need to finalize the entry list.  Once it is full, it is full and you will miss out.

Regards
Neil

Additional note to all those contemplating entering this once in a life time event and haven't sent in their paperwork.

You will need to enter by the end of this coming week or so in order for your entry (name and car) to be listed and recorded in the official program, thus stamping your presence into the records for what is expected to be a marvellous event.

This is due to deadlines by various coordinators needing to complete their work for the event.

In addition, unlike the lenient conditions of sprint events I run and allow, this event's strict entry conditions does not allow the expansion the field (once full) or take late entries.

Therefore it is highly stressed that if you are contemplating on entering and waiting for the closing date or whatever reason, put in the entry immediately to avoid disappointment.

Looking forward to entry.

Regards
Neil

Yes, that's fine, but need a name so I can look out for it.

You can email or PM but just let me know what to look for, as I expect there will entries come in and hate to miss it for whatever reason.

Hi Neil,

I'll be heading down on the Sunday to watch the days events, would love to put alfie on the track but she needs a little prep work which unfortunately won't happen in time. I'd love to be apart of the parade lap and group photo though!

Well, just under a couple of weeks to go and I'm getting excited!  I saw some footage from the Superbikes on the weekend and the track is looking in tip top condition.

This must be some sort of record, we have 147 entries so far!  Sure there has been more Alfas on track at once, but to get this many Alfas to one single meeting is an exceptional effort, so well done!!

Entries do close on Friday so if you or any of your mates are still sitting on the fence, tell them to get the splinters out and get their entry in ASAP.

Attached is the following;

Current Entry List (by run group)
Event Schedule

Hey there all

This time next week, it will be going off with a bang and running.  Alfa Island!!!!

Currently over 155 entries.

15 Invited Very Special Alfa's.

Record number of Alfetta's, over 70.

Terrific number of 105's

And

One lonely 90

I am closing entries off this weekend but if you are quick and get in touch with me via email or phone (0433 11 66 47) and because I am a nice guy (my personal opinion only) you might get in.

Weather is looking good.

Phil has everything under control as is Ross.

So bring on Alfa Island.  It would have to be a record for the most number of racing Alfa's at any one event.

Hi there all,

Not long to go, I am sure all car preparations are complete.

An update, we have just achieved 159 entries for Alfa Island, rather remarkable, for the centenary celebration.

The weather forecast is fine and mid 20's, so perfect.  The weather god is shining upon us.

Anyone late entrants best to get in touch with me now.

Anyone wanting to help out also, you will need to contact me so I can allocate roles.

This special event is open to all Alfa enthusiast, so drive down in your Alfa and enjoy the sight and sounds of all the Alfa's on track.  This could be and will be the largest gathering of Alfa's on a race track, at least in Australia.  So come down and contribute to this event.

Regards
Neil

If you need anymore help, I'd be happy to do what I can on Sunday. I'm aiming to get to the track around 10-10.30. I'm coming down with my cousin so he can give a hand as well

QuoteThis could be and will be the largest gathering of Alfa's on a race track, at least in Australia.

Can anyone with a better memory than mine confirm this?

So is this THE largest Alfa race meeting in Australian motorsport history???    We hope so!

See you at Alfa Island!

This is what you have to beat. ;)

(The Alfisti in South Africa turned out in droves for Alfa Romeo Kyalami Day, setting a new world record for the most Alfas on the track at once. The record – which mirrors the one set by Ferrari at Silverstone last year – required 200 vehicles, but the organizers got no fewer than 240 Alfas to hit the Kyalami circuit (former host of the South African Grand Prix) at once. Nearly 7000 visitors (excluding staff) were in attendance, while the parking lots filled up with over 2300 cars)

Good Luck
John

Well there's around 140 cars entered for track duty, surely there'll be more than 100 spectator Alfas around.  We could go for the world record!!

We got around 159 entries, plus spectator Alfa's.

Someone can bring a counter and count as Alfa's enter the track.  Colin Thomas is our Track Entry Official.

Neil

Oooops, forgot about the double entered Alfa's, so need a few more spectator Alfa's.  So all the Alfa owners out there, come on down and join and try to beat the record.

I got a GTA in the garage if anyone wants to drive that down for me!!!!

Results are located here

Fabulous weekend, thanks to all the organizers, OFFICIALS AND HELPERS MORE ESPECIALLY, and all the entrants.  Also all the spectators who came down help the festivities.

We will name the officials and helpers in a report shortly.

Highlight:  as I was coming around in the Alfa MITO pace car, after southern loop, the last few cars of the parade lap were still being released.  So an entire track filled with Alfa's.

As Neil said, we will name all the officials and helpers individually soon.  But I am going to single out two people without whom this event simply would not have even got off the ground.

Neil Choi - who came in when I was in a real mess and sorted me (and everyone else) out.
Ross Flood - who despite running the rest of the 2010 programme was still able to commit an extraordinary amount of time to Alfa Island.

So, to you two guys, my personal thanks and gratitude.

Give 'em a pat on the back next time you see them, they deserve it.

I'm sitting at work today with a bit of a goofy grin - what a brilliant weekend, great to catch up with so many Alfisti from interstate and see all the wonderful Alfas, especially the Alfetta 159 and the magnificent P3.

Thanks to the organisers, officials, and other volunteers.

cheers,
Evan.

What a great day! couldn't ask for better weather either, although I was spewing I didn't wear shorts!

Very proud to have been a part of the photo...just one question. Why was that Ferrari allowed in?? Don't get me wrong I love the thing, what a machine, but still...oh well, at least I'll be able to spot my car now, just in front of the scuderia.

The parade lap was also fantastic, for someone like me that's never been on a race track it was awesome to drive on it. Even got to have a few fast corners around siberia and lukey. Can't wait to be able to jump on it and race properly!

thanks again fellas, mammoth effort much appreciated

The one that i saw going completely sideways, out of control, two wheels in the dirt, small child who looked far too young to be properly restrained in the passenger seat?

Looked like a great weekend  ;D

So who pulled the fastest laps on Sat and Sun ? (Race cars and road registered cars)

What was he driving (I expect a GTV6 ;)) ?

John , depending upon your definition of "road registered". But this result could break a few GTV 6 drivers hearts and suprise the rest. But i think that title of fastest road registered V6 went to "the enevlope please" Sheldon MacIntosh in the Alfa 90 with a 2.04

Post by: Sheldon McIntosh on March 15, 2010, 11:18:06 PM
No that's not right.  It was a 2.03.8

But seriously, Victor and Mary's GTV6 is road registered and considerably quicker than me, as is Tony Stubbs' supercharged beast.  And I did get beaten by one-tenth by my new racing buddy from NSW in a 4 cylinder GTV (so that'll be the last time I show someone the lines around PI).

oh no definitely not the P3, I love that! What a fantastic sounding beauty!! I've got a good little "movie" about Ferrari, more of a documentary on Enzo's life, goes into decent detail about the early days inc. his days with Alfa.

Yes I have that movie (VHS tape) used for the film classification prior to release 13/8/03. Here's the bit I think you refer to on release of the Alfa P3 built by Enzo's Scuderia Ferrari (this an edited version of my own movie);

You could get yourself in great trouble with comments like that Paul (no offence to Sheldon)!  For example, I see a 147 GTA with a time of 2:03.7, not to mention a few other faster cars which may not be 100% road legal, but still have numberplates on them....

Sheldon, you could be in trouble on a count back on a few fronts,  a slight matter of 1/10th of a second. Also as i said earlier its all in your definition of "road registered". My definition and case in point was i had a great time at the island on the weekend. Got home Sunday night  to find trouble with the wifey's car so i unbolted the race  seat and have been driving the alfetta around for the last 2 days. It's character building without air conditioning.

I think if you dig out the history books you'll find a pretty standard 2.5 GTV6 (say with some Vin's front bars and a set of Dunlop R's) has done under 2 minutes.

I was looking for something else and came across this thread, and it got me intriqued.

So aggie57, just how "pretty standard" was this GTV6, and who was driving?  Under 2 minutes for a "pretty standard" GTV6 is pretty very very quick.

I'd have to dig back in the record books Sheldon because I'm talking about several years back. Certainly before 2004.

But if I also told you a fully trimmed road-going GTV6 with a 12-valve 3 litre engine did under 2.02 (ok 2.01.99) on road tyres what would you say?
