Title: Gear spin on shaft
Post by: MD on May 01, 2023, 07:30:02 AM
Has anybody experienced the 3rd/4th gears turning on the shaft particularly when swapping out the 3rd gear on a twin spark gearbox?

How do you mean spinning in the shaft. Do you mean the press on 3/4 gear assy on the main shaft?

Exactly.

I haven't seen it or heard of it. It's a pretty tight interference fit.

So I understand.
Trying to distinguish between a slipping brand new clutch & flywheel and potentially a good clutch and the slipping gear set.
The clutch does not slip in the first two gears and bites hard. The gearset has been pressed on and off to alter the ratio which is fairly common to do so if it is a problem one would see it manifest to other users I would expect.
Of course engine power would have a bearing on it.
My testing is incomplete. Should know more by the end of the week.

Hey MD,

Where'd the clutch kit come from out of interest?

We have had several problems now with clutches from one of our suppliers, and I'm wondering if it's the same one.

PM me if you like.

Cheers.

Hi Mick,

I am taking the car to the track on the 18th and will be giving it a thorough work out regarding the clutch and the gearbox. So far the jury is out but I am leaning towards the clutch. It has had 3 versions in the last 30 days !!

To save any embarrassment all round, I'll send you a PM.

Well the track testing today confirmed that the custom clutch set up is definitely the culprit. So back I go for the fourth time.

If there is a saving grace, the gearbox itself does not have gear spin on the shaft.

Fifth version with more pressure and more friction has solved the problem. Mr Supercharger and Mrs Clutch are now both happy.  ;D
