Well I thought we had better get some pics up of the car now this section is up and running - fantastic. This is the first car we will build with the second car sometime early next year. I have puts pics of it in another thread.
This one of course looks nice and shiny however it of course covered up a number of both expected and unexpected problems. The front right guard was pretty bad so we ended up replacing the whole front end (front guards and radiator support panel) with that from a donor car. The shell has been stripped and seam welded with the cage going in at the moment. I will put more pics up as the car progresses.
The problems....
Progress.....
The top 2 show the new front end attached and it being prepared for paint.
The bottom 2 show the engine bay with some of the seam welding.
Final prep of the interior....a little more to do then the cage goes in.
The car then goes onto a rotisserie and the underneath is cleaned and welded. Final prep and then the whole thing is off for paint. Red with a white nose.
We are making progress.
Sourced 45 webers from the US - should be here in a week.
Cage is in and chassis prep is complete - off to the paint shop (Rankins Restorations) very soon.
Ordered tyres
Pick up shocks on Monday
Have new Sparco seats, harnesses, window net etc
More Pics soon!
Scott,
Surely you could have sourced some good (even new) Weber 45s locally?
Some of the Sydney guys are looking at moving up to Weber 48s (like the Group N boys.) Where will it end ... :o
Pricing in the US was very good - better than here. They have arrived and are very good. Yes, I have though of 48's but they are so much more expensive and harder to source.

Hey Scott, 45 Webers??.... do we have a bit of lack of communication here??!
I understood that we were talking 48s all along and the porting/valves sizes etc on your head have been done with this in mind. The flow testing and final detailing has been done with 48carb/42 choke to get the last bit right. This is the combination Ive used on all the 2lts pushing up around 200hp @7300rpm (best 211hp). 45s with 40 chokes will knock about 15 hp off the top end potential. I have new 48s at hand if you want, sourcing is not such a problem.
The new batch of Alfetta torsion bars is underway now.
Cheers,Vin.
Well Vin, if Scott doesnt want em, i might take them as i am collecting my Group S project GTV on sunday and will start collecting bits for it over coming months with a view to having it ready later next year or at least sprintable.
Failing that, i could always put em on my sprint :P
Thanks Vin - I will call to discuss.
Yes the 48s (and 45s for that matter) are easier to source new however they are just harder to source 2nd hand. 45s are about $400 to $500 each second hand.
Congrats Ed - that is great news!! The category is really building. We want pics after you pick it up.
Weber DCOE 45s would be great in a boxer engine - except that the petrol would all fall out :-)
Ed make sure to start a new topic with some initial photos of your project car so everyone can follow your progress...
Great news Edward!! I look forward to lining up against you by the Winton Historics next year! That's plenty of time..... ???
i will put up a photo or 2 shortly but that'll be where it stops for a while.
I want to CH reg it for a while but to do that it needs a new motor (head has been worked and it has extractors) and a rear seat cos i aint allowed to work on it until the sprint has been sold ::)
You've got to be careful talking like that about your Sprint - it'll get in a huff and expire at Winton next weekend! Don't hurt a ladies feelings...
We should stop hijacking Scott's thread now...
More pics - roll cage in and complete - ready for final bodywork - look at those beautiful TIG welds!
A few more - Roll cage intrusion bars are lower than normal to ensure Vicroads roadworthy compliance for CH plates.
The primer is applied...
More primer.
A few more...
Car was painted yesterday - haven't seen it yet - will post photos as soon.
Ooh ooh how exciting! :o
I know!!!
Although I havent spoken to Geoff this week, I think mine should be painted by now too!! Vin tells me my pistons etc are in now, and suspension bits are heading down to Bayswater also....it all starting to come together ;D
well it really is Christmas then ;D
Season's greetings to all. See you in the new Year
How's progress Scott? I saw in another thread you are looking at going to Winton for a shakedown run.
Give me a yell if you need an extra hand, or just someone to stand around and annoy the people actually working ;D
We are nearly there - will start it on Saturday so come on over if you are free. I have been meaning to put up some new pics but just haven't had time - will do it tonight.
I also have your foot plates.
Update - pics from final build and finished product.....
I noticed you have remotely mounted your clutch away from standard position....a wise move as the wiper arm on my car hits the clutch reservior every time the wiper sweeps!
It was by accident, not by design, i just didn't have one with an integrated reservoir that fitted with the brakes....
and more...
Beautiful job mate, and damn fast at PI too! Must have been the car 'cos the driver is not much cop!! ;)
Bingo!
I want it! GIVE IT TO ME!!!!
First Outing....
More....but not finished yet...
So this is car no. 1?
If I can placate Ironsides, I could be convinced to drive no. 2 for you. Just to do you a favour and all......

Come on Evan, you couldn't give up the Sud's could you?
I wanted to post this in the "No.2 car" thread, but it's locked.....
So, what is happening with Blue Thunder? Have we convinced Nev to start another GroupS weapon?
Yes, Blue Thunder is now Nev's and it will be Group S in the very near future. His target is Bathurst next year subject to a few things going his way.

Car 2 (Blue Thunder) has now gone to Nev and will be a Group S car one day. Sorry Sheldon, if Nev didn't take it you were next cab off the rank.....
This car is for sale!
