Title: 159 Squeaky front brakes
Post by: sprint speciale on June 17, 2021, 01:50:09 PM
Hi Everyone,

For a long time now my front brakes on my 2011 159 2.4 D Wagon have been squeaking at low speed (at the lights, parking etc)

Its driving me nuts.......people laugh at the lights .....I even get "funny" texts from friends as I approach.

My long time well known Alfa Mechanic and friend supposedly, who fitted the pads, tells me there is nothing he can do as this is a characteristic of genuine Alfa Romeo pads.

I have spoken to a couple of other 159 owners I know and none have ever had this problem.

Has anyone else experienced this ?  Is my mechanic right ?

I don't need help from my car, my brakes, my mechanic etc to look silly ..........I can do that all by myself .

Would you put up with this ?

Thanks in advance,

Frank .

A regular occurrence on my 2009 159Ti.  Usually the rears.
Caused by repeated light brake applications scraping the rotor back to bare metal.
Anti-squeal paste helped a bit as did getting some serious heat into the brakes every now and then.
Not uncommon with high spec brakes - they are Brembo's!

How times change....I recall back in the 60/70s when most disc brake cars had the low speed squeak. It announced your car actually had DISC BRAKES & the noise was normally accepted, and as a badge of technological pride to some extent!

The people that "laugh at the lights" probably have no issue with those cars from Northern Europe whose exhaust sound like a very wet fart.
Take your friends to a local motorsport event and listen to cars with serious brakes scraping and squealing as they are driven around the pits and onto the out grid.

Yes Vin.  Some people need to get out a bit more!
I love the song disks sing when pushed to their limit - its what they're designed to do.

Had the problem.  ABS brakes Eltham did some chamfer shaving to get rid of it.

Anti squeal shims behind the pads?
