Title: 159 TBI throttle response
Post by: jezzathep on April 30, 2021, 09:17:10 PM
Evening,

I've had my TBI for a few months now. A lot to love, but one thing that is annoying me is what I describe as "laggy throttle response". Press the accelerator, wait a second, then it goes. Am I on my own or is this how the fly-by-wire is setup from the factory?

Normal turbo lag, it will have.  Hesitation -- no.

What you are describing is what my 2.2 JTS had.  They all do that.

The TBi should pull hard.

Is this phenomenon just from standstill??  If you spool up the turbo and drop the clutch it shouldn't lag off the line either.

Quite possible it is normal turbo lag, not something I'm used to.

An example I can give, if I attempt to blip the throttle on downshift (as I would on my older cars) I get no response at all. It doesn't have that snappy response. Is that what you expect?
