Title: 147 TI identification
Post by: Beatle on June 04, 2019, 08:47:20 PM
How can I pick a 147 TI from a distance?

I've seen a few 3-door 147s advertised as TIs but they don't have the roof spoiler.  Do all TIs have the spoiler?

Does black leather with red stitching denote TI or was it optional across the range?

What about sunroofs.  Did all TIs get the hole in the roof?

Apart from the addition of the TI badge on the rear left, was the Twinspark badging deleted from rear right?

Thanks,

Beatle

Seats were optional to any variant, ride height is usually a clue.

Ti had the more expensive stiffer upper rear strut rubbers, in addition to shorter body struts F/R and shorter springs.

I haven't seen one without the dual red centre line seats, sunroof and 17" wheels but that's not to say they don't exist.

My understanding is that the black leather seats with the red stitching are unique to the Ti and the later Monza models, though these had the Alfa Romeo logo inscribed in the headrests. How do I know? I've got two Monzas - yes, it's a long story and probably deserves a thread of its own. These seats are also specced in late GTs, which are really just 147 Sprints - that's what they were supposed to be called.

Do the Monzas carry on the Ti sports suspension? If so, how much lower are they to standard?

As for sunroofs, I'm a bit intrigued. A lot of early 147s seem to have them but they are rarer on later models. One of my Monzas has a sunroof but the other one doesn't.

My '02 147 5 door was built with those seats, standard suspension, Sele, Bose sound and sunroof. If you filter by VIN on ePer it shows thus.

Assuming its the same as for the lowered factory 156 setup, they are dropped 25mm.

My understanding is that the leather "sports seats"  with the distinctive "v" stitching was introduced in 2004 with the GT and then on the 147 Ti of the same year. Apart from the Ti they were also used on the Monza but the last 147s had cloth seats in the standard design. Every GT had the leather sports seats in a variety of colours though I think from 2008 onwards they were only grey/black leather.

I didn't know about ePer but when I when I got into the website and entered my chassis number it didn't accept the number I had entered,.

To be clear, here is the seat pattern I'm talking about.  More dark grey than black.

Just buy a Giulietta QV with all the toys... it's a quantum leap in tech/performance/safety and for some absurd reason the cheapest version to buy secondhand, I mean FFS.  It's absolutely the bottom of the JCurve for price/performance

Also the 147 is a bit sh#t  :P
(Just kidding)

Though my distinguished friend is quite correct about the QV, he is unaware of your $5000 budget.  :)

Our distinguished fiend.... friend has also assumed I'm in the market for another Alfa.
Whatever gave him that idea   ;)

Regardless, you lost me at 'tech'.......

PS:  I drove a decent 2000 TS Spider today

Yes, that's pattern 943.

Paul: My VIN suffix in this instance is 05059735, if you filter this through ePer it will show as a "Distinctive" 5 door Selespeed in silver grey from April 2002 with SED-943 seat pattern. You'd have to agree the prospect of someone both changing the seats and tickling up the official database is pretty slim.

Hi Beatle,
See attached a couple of images taken some time ago of our 147Ti.
Can't recall details of the seats, however they seemed unique to the Ti - impressive but not as good as the 159Ti we had.
In addition to the usual Ti mechanical stuff, our 147Ti featured unique pedals, unique floor mats, unique door sill scuff plates and no sunroof.
Probably sat 10mm < 15mm lower than a "standard" 147.
NEVER had any problems with the Selespeed!

Colin

Beatle, I stumbled across this 2006 Australian brochure online, which may help you spot a Ti, and what was standard on them. A whole chapter (04 - p12) devoted to the Ti.

Final shot of the 147's cute bum!
Not sure if the Kamm spoiler helped aero but it seemed to keep the rear glass clean.
Miss it a lot.............miss the 159 more though!
