Title: alfetta v's porsche 944 turbo
Post by: carlo rossi on December 31, 2017, 12:52:43 PM
went for a grand tour  yesterday with some mates the back roads of the hunter and central coast
great day out will post the route almost no police except when i got out of the carpark at the Gosford Car museum ( well worth a look) not as good as before he sold 50 cars)
I was pulled over for a breath test ,I think he just wanted to look at the car
anyway the eventual happened a drag race between Didi's porsche turbo and the statesman v8 (wb)
and the GTV.
well no surprise the statesman came last Stig was was very miffed
Clarkson in the Porsche said he didnt give it alot but the huge puff of black smoke that came out as i slowly crept past told a different story
and the alfetta well can hold its head high although it was pretty even .
oh and my name for the day I hear you ask , "Fammond"
and larger version of Hammond
Viva la Alfa

Mmm, me thinks your mates Porsche needs a check.  Sorry, but new it had roughly 100 more horses than an Alfetta. Maybe some have escaped.

Yes on paper i have to agree
mine at best is 160hp and 1150kg
theirs is 220hp and 1350kg
they should win hands down
So what I have done is a Steven Bradbury
the gold medal is mine

Like the weedy little gladiator in Life of Brian, eh?  ;D

Glad the underdog got up, but damn! You ran the gauntlet with double points and all the hooha about road fatalities.

Live the dream Carlo.

In the late 80s I used to regularly unofficially race a Viper Green 3.2 Porsche along Epping Road from Epping to Mowbray Rd in my first split dash GTV6. I don't know who he was, all I know is that I could stay closish to it but no way could I beat it.

Your friend in the Turbo must have been being very kind 8). That said, it was lots of fun.

Carlo, are you sure his turbo didn't solely comprise some stickers and a rear wing?

Reckon you'd need more than cams to get anywhere close. But hey, good driving 👍

Back in the day Car magazine did a really good comparo of the 944 Turbo and the then current 911. They were pretty line ball, but they did some wonderful camera work on a winter track cut out of a frozen lake. Both cars were red.

When the cars were new, Modern Motor magazine did a 14.4 sec quarter for the Porsche 944 Turbo and 16.6 for the Alfa GTV6, so there should have been a big difference in acceleration if both cars are stock and tuned.

well your dead right  but mine is not a v6 its a 2 ltr with an upspec to grp1 and a bit
the other is a stock 944 turbo  30 years old
so thats where my advantage lays ,is not that mine is mega fast ( but not slow)
its just that the porsche has done nothing in 30years so its slow
well thats my take on it
ps mine is faster than a v6 standard

That looks like a great track.
The GTV6 owner seemed rather reluctant to use 2nd gear in the slow corner, tho.

The driver of the car in front was reluctant to go anywhere near the apexes!!!
