Title: What fuel are you using in your Giulia?
Post by: alfagtv100 (Biggus) on December 17, 2017, 08:53:49 PM
Alfa recommends 95 RON. I tend to use BP 98 RON out of habit.
I am curious to know what others are using.
Am I spending more than necessary on  champagne when sparkling wine may be good enough?
Uneducated opinions welcome. This is the internet after all.

I don't have a giulia but have found that my cars drink more on Vpower than BP Ultimate.

I also find BP cheaper than Vpower.

I don't mind spending the extra on fuel...I don't smoke etc and the saving is marginal between 98 and 95.

I use 98 in my Veloce.  Usually BP.  Can't really say that there's a tangible difference between 98 and 95 but I like to think I'm using the best that I can in my brand new engine.  It's probably because of suckers like me that oil companies make billions of $ every year 😂

As for the 4 cylinder Giulia, Page 246 of the Owners Manual specifies 91 Regular unleaded.

Don't quote me.
A representative of Mobil/BP has indicated to me that due to the costs of scale they are working on phasing out 95....so often 95 bowsers dispense 98 at the lower price. In my very octane sensitive 105's I usually can't detect a difference. Note too that BP only charge 8 cents extra for 95 over 91 whereas the other brands charge as much as 16 cents for the premium stuff.

For the budget conscious, a saving of approximately $400 per year would be achieved if 91 regular unleaded was used in lieu of 95 RON.
Note : Figures based on cost difference of 15 cents/litre and consumption of 50 litres of fuel weekly.

in italy there is no such thing as 91. they have unleaded 'normale 95' or 'speciale 98'. so im sticking to 95

Are RON ratings quantified the same in the EU as in Australia?

I thought Oz/NZ used different metrics and that other countries gave lower RON figures to some of our appellations.

That is interesting Gary.  Introduces a sense of mystery to refuelling.

Russian Roulette is actually a fifteen year old crank sensor on a Twin Spark, isn't it?
