Title: 159 air con. How good is it ?
Post by: grey75 on October 17, 2017, 07:26:51 PM
I was wondering if anyone could give me an honest assessment in regards to how affective the air con is in the 159 model Alfa. The reason I ask is because i previously owned a 156 and always thought that the air con was terrible ! Thanks.

Hi grey75
Find attached a Youtube video that provides a good insight into basic checks on performance of A/C system. Basically you should be getting about 5 degrees C coming out of the centre vents for a good performing A/C system.

The 159 system is sustainably better that the 156.

The problem with the 156 in my opinion is the terrible vent setup, those useless narrow vents on top of the dash ect. The 147 basically uses the exact same components as the 156 and yet the majority of 147 owners are quite happy with the A/C in their cars, due to the superior venting layout. (just my opinion)

When I service facelift 156 cars I replace the dual Paper cabin Filters with high flow filter foam. It produces a significantly better air flow and allows the A/C to work much better.

The only drawback is IT MUST be replaced every 12 months as it tends to start to perish over longer periods.

Never had a problem with the A/C in our 159.  Agree the pollen filter should be changed anually if the car does more than 15k a year.  Also need to clean heat exchanger regularly.  Just the normal maintenance like any other!

Recall the dealer making a point that my first 159's aircon was a great improvement over the 156.

That doesn't mean the 159 aircon is close to German refrigeration standards.  Marginal for an Australian summer.

The aircon in the 159 is pretty good.  Good enough.

Hi All, the a/c in my '08 159 JTS ti 2.2 man with 43,000km, has been absolutely adequate in comparison to any of the 40,000 cars I've driven. Jim
