Title: 164 with 156 JTS wheels
Post by: V AR 164 on September 24, 2016, 09:51:09 AM
Hey guys,
I have asked this question before, but I didn't get a definate answer.

Would the 17' 156 JTS wheels fit on a 164? They have the same PCD (5x98) but I am concerned about the offset of 40.5. I have seen it done before but I just wanna make sure. Picture below (white car)

I have also seen a 164q in Victoria with the 17' 3 spoke 147 rims with the exact same dimensions as the 156 JTS wheels, so I'm assuming they both will bolt right up? Picture below (black car)

Any advice is greatly appreciated as I need to make a decision whether or not I'm going to buy them soon.

Cheers, Andrew.

Sorry I can't answer Andrew, but damn those 147 wheels look fine on that car.

My suggestion is find a way to make em fit, anyhow you can.

Damn those wheels look good on that black QV! Is that a '97 24v car?

Huh, I actually don't like the wheels on the black car! Looks ugly to me. It's an Australian 12v car and a build thread can be found here: http://alfaromeo164register.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=383&sid=4d2829fe5b0587c6e33dc6b1a7382cf7

No one has any info regarding the wheels?

Andrew.

Measure the centre bore, if I remember it's the only thing that's different

Yes, although I believe that is only necessary with the 75 to bore out the centre? Not sure, will find out soon enough.

Here's a pic of the wheels, if anyone is interested. I'm going to try and refurbish them, maybe even paint them white? I'm not sure, just want to try something different and stand out of the crowd!

Got them with potenza re002 in 215,45,17 already fitted, so should be a night and day difference in grip levels compared to my Eco tyres on there now!

(Oh, forgot to mention, I don't have them as of yet, they are getting shipped out soon and should arrive in a few weeks)

Andrew.

Wow! Andrew that looks fantastic, your 164 has the right ride height to go with them, I have seen these wheels on a couple of 164s with high suspension and it is not that good a look, you have inspired me to put my set on my red QV, I purchased a set of these wheels about a year ago but have not got around to puttting them on anything yet, I have never had a issue putting 147/156 type wheels on 164s, did you have any issues? In your photos have you left the factory 164 spacers on, front or back?
Title: Re: 164 with 156 JTS wheels

I didn't have any issues putting them on, they just bolt straight on. I drove the car on the street for the first time yesterday and the wheels did not rub once.

No I am not running any spacers. I haven't come across any 164 with spacers on them. Although I reckon a small spacer on the back wheels will make it look better, a the wheels sunken into the guards more than I would like.

Yes certainly put a set on your q, it does look fantastic.

Cheers, Andrew.

Post by: VeeSix on November 01, 2016, 04:23:30 PM
That is unusual Andrew, 164s came from the factory with spacers, you have four currently and not one of them has spacers, double check as they are easy to overlook, they even have the hole in them for the little screw type unit that goes onto the hub so they look like they are part of the hub, easy to overlook being screwed on.

Photo attached, if you have ever gone to remove the back wheel off a automatic model and it is really stuck on, someone has removed the spacer.

There you go. Just went to have a look and it seems all my auto ones have the spacer on the front wheels. The rears do not have the spacer. I didn't even realise they were there, it just looked part of the brake rotor.

The Q doesn't have any spacers. I have recently installed new rotors all around and the mechanic hasn't put the spacers back on, and the rotors have since been thrown out.

I took the car for another drive today with someone sitting in the back, and over big bumps, the rear wheels do scrub the fender liner. So if there were spacers, it would probably start to scrub the fender itself.

Hey Andrew,

Found one in WA you might want to add to your collection - a 3L HK import badged "168" because 164 was apparently considered to be an unlucky number in Chinese.

I have seen this car on the ausalfa forum once before, and I read he wanted to sell it.

Interesting setup with a GTV6 gearbox, must have had a lot of custom work done to it. Also wondering why someone would have bigger wheels on the back for a fwd car, yes it looks cool but would probably ruin the handling.

I have also read about the 168 before, would be really cool to have but I don't need it, something I need to keep telling myself haha.

Poohbah, maybe something for you?   ;D

Cheers, Andrew.
