Awsome, I love that a $36,000 engine is being proped up by a brick on the flywheel!

Interesting.....only thing is, it is NOT a 1600GTA engine block, cylinder head, carbs or distributor at just an initial look at the photos. There well may be some 1300 GTA parts, or perhaps reproduction parts, you wouldn't know unless inspected in person. Engine number is concocted. However, by the time you get together and make one of these from either genuine or reproduction parts, it is going to be a high dollar item anyway. There is no reason why it won't perform just the same as a genuine GTA engine.
As long as the buyer was aware of what he was buying, no problem.

Bonhams were notified of this, but.....maybe they tripped over their commission on the way to the computer to edit the ad. ;)

Can I ask what the giveaways are?

The first thing is the brick.

If the engine was genuine one, it would have a proper stand, lined with unicorn leather.

Quick giveaways are; later series block using a number that is outside 1600GTA numbers & in wrong position, head without unique I.D. number in casting& looks to be repro die-cast, later series Marelli distributor, carbs are late style 45s not the TiSuper /TZ/1600 GTA type.
Still a nice piece of kit though.
Interestingly, a RHD 1600 GTA also without an original engine (& stripped interior: bare/caged race style) went for 320,000Aud at the Bonhams auction.
Perhaps Steve can locate some unicorn leather to donate for an interior. ;D

Interesting - Thanks Vin. I'm never going to be in the market for a GTA engine, but interesting to know all the same.

Vin, the unicorn leather is very hard to find these days.

I was hoping to start a captive breeding program, but the little darlings keep flying away.

Cheers

Well there's your problem.  Sounds like you're trying to breed pegasus, rather than unicorn.

Wait....aren't unicorn the ones with wings.

Oh damn it. I gone and got my mythical creatures mixed up again. Back to the drawing board for me.

And, as punishment for getting it wrong, I'll force myself to spend the weekend in the shed.
