Title: 2 x 105's - 1 rolling shell and 1 disassembled car
Post by: mn1 on February 23, 2016, 09:17:06 PM
Some 5 or 6 years ago, having searched Australia wide for an excellent restored or at least pristine original 105 I decided they could not be found (for sale) and decided to start assembling the core of a project. Needless to say it never progressed past collecting bits and pieces.
Recent acquisitions mean it would be handy to regain the space taken up by boxes and boxes of bits and 2 shells filling a carport.
Not sure if I should try and dispose of the lot in one go, part out all of it or divide it into the 2 major acquisitions and assorted bits.
Anyhow..if there's some interest, I have a pretty straight 1600 rolling shell complete with diff, gearbox, pedals, seats and dash, instruments, wiring, straight bonnet, boot and steering wheel. ...plus a more or less complete 1600 car with a 2 litre transplant on dellorto's which now starts and runs again thanks to new water pump, refurbed carbs and alternator. This motor is servicable and brought the car from QLD to Sydney w/out probs before it (the car) was stripped. It had fluids replaced on acquisition for storage and gets started 3 or 4 times a year. This car has been boxed but is more or less a complete package, including a new front windscreen. The shell has some 3/4 rear impact damage which was bogged (the other shell is better)...possibly could be beaten out but new panel probably easier. Both shells have rusted through sections around the rear windows in the usual places but I've seen a lot, lot worse and at least there is no attempt to hide anything...I'm keeping the original Carrello lenses (sorry, I know what these are worth and can make use of them).
Everything is tired and needs lot's of work.
Anyhow, in summary, before I flatten the camera battery and overload the Aroca server with pics...it ain't going to be at giveaway prices but if you too are of the same mind set, fed up with looking at $20k plus examples that really need pulling apart to get at badly disguised rust and figure early single headlight shells are as gorgeous as these things get, this stuff might be worth a look and PM me if you want to have a rummage. This is not going to be a cherry pick
I repeat, it's not at giveaway prices, I know roughly what it owes me and I want that back...... and again, it all needs lots of work. Some bits are only good for templates and I have culled some beyond-repair stuff (I recall an headlining hitting the bin in recent months, but the frame remains!)
I'm trying to be as up front as possible here ... it will be interesting to see where the responses lead.

Any advice on the best disposal method (from experience) also welcome....in the meantime I'm going to start pricing up 1600 gearboxes..I hear the Euro racers pay lots for these...or was that just wishful?

Car one has been inventoried and some shots are on YouTube. Will try and get to next car over weekend. If you have questions, PM me. Will attempt to respond promptly. Having gone over it again today I was reminded how sound a start it represented. It is a very straight and largely rust free example. Buy the 1600 currently advertised at $15k on Carsales and this shell...make the shell perfect and shift the bits off the runner????
