Title: 164Q rear electronic shockers, where to obtain?
Post by: Joe Garra on March 01, 2015, 02:41:43 PM
Giancarlo has onformed me that one has a very very slight leak, so I will need to replace it soon. I understand the electronic ones are hard to find, but I am keen to keep the car as original as I can. Any suggestions where I can get a pair?   Thanks Joe

Maybe try Mille Miglia Motors up in Thomastown. The guys name is Joe and he sources all my 164 parts. Check out www.alfauto.com.au.

I rebuilt mine - if you wander over to the alfabb there's a thread on rebuilding the electronic dampers. They're rebuildable, but most will tell you they're not - had to have some parts made to do the job, but it wasn't too bad.

Alternatively Alfissimo.com have some NOS electronic dampers, the price might put you off though.

Hi Joe, did you get the information you needed?

I have a copy of the rebuild manual for the Boge Electronic CDS struts used on the 164Q by Immel & Bishop. It shows how to machine the carriers for the Bilstein seals. I had a set made up in titanium (because I could!), see pic. I've never used them (ended up putting standard struts on the rear just to get the RWC), but can easily get more made - about $50 each.

The main reason I haven't done mine (yet) is I can see I'll spend a lot of time and effort rebuilding them, only to find that the various sensors in the car have failed, which will take more time, money and effort to resolve.

I'd be interested to hear if you've made any progress with yours?

Jim

HI, I sourced some second hand replacements, so I'll see how they go.
