Title: learning to rebuild engine
Post by: alfa.dude on May 11, 2014, 04:37:57 PM
hey all

As i come from a digital background and have no one around to teach me i would like to further my mechanical knowledge!

Where or how do i go about learning how to build or re build an engine?

any suggestions would be awesome!

Id love to learn how to build my own engine and turn my poor old 33 into a race car instead of wrecking it

cheers all

There are plenty of books around, ACL Engine manual by Gregory Workshop manuals, lots of books around, but most for old pushrod V-8 American motors, lots of things on youtube, i worked at an Engine reconditioner for 2 years, when we had 'the reccesion we had to have', but impractiable for most people.
Building up an engine is one of the most satisfying jobs you will ever do.
You could try a night time TAFE class, but they tend to go on forever.
Even get an old Alfa Romeo boxer engine from a wrecker and pull it apart, looking at the workshop manual for instructions, Colin.

Happy to say. I too have made one of my better decisions to acquire an Alfa 33. And I. Too wish to set up the car for circuit work. So as an idea maybe we could learn together if you are local to me. Anthony

alfabb.com is gold... and find a parts/tools supplier in the US - this will save heaps on all the bits you will need to complete the job.
