Title: Racing Suspension design - good book?
Post by: Mike on April 15, 2014, 12:55:22 AM
Gents,

For a long time I have avoided the topic of suspension, prefering to leave it to the experts.  Lately though, I am wanting to better understand suspension design from first principles, so that I may better choose my modifications.

So, does anyone have a reccomendation for a good book on the subject, specifically as it relates to RWD.  Just want to start off on te right foot.

Cheers
Mike

One of the books often mentioned is Carroll Smiths 'Tune to Win'.

And it just so happens that while I was looking up the authors name (always confuse it with Carroll Shelby in my mind), I found it on google drive... Enjoy. (Yes, you'll need to sign in to view it)

Want something to keep you off the streets for a few nights... ?

Milliken and Milliken: Race Car Vehicle Dynamics:

http://www.millikenresearch.com/rcvd.html (http://www.millikenresearch.com/rcvd.html)

I had a copy years ago and read it cover to cover. Unfortunately, it got lost in one of my moves.

This IS THE definative book on the subject you are talking about.

So I have been reading the first reccomendation, I must say, very enjoyable to read, god sense of humour.

The SAE contents page is crazy, if 700 odd pages can't help you improve suspension.....  Is it a book for sale?

Over on the right hand side is the purchase info button: $99 (probably US). Not sure if that is an E-book or what.

There is a companion book too: the pair for $159.

You wanted first principles... Read the reviews at the RHS.

Got it, thanks.  The link provided is just a pdf, but I searched the name in SAE and found the to buy section.  Good stuff.
