Heres some photos of the shitbox rally alfetta i bought of a forum member last year.I have welded all the rust and repainted it.Also had a bit of a hit in on the right hand 1/4 panel which ive pulled straight. The paint job is a 20mt or 200kmh job as the paint had a reaction with ?????something--really strange but looks acceptable(i like patina anyway)I have put some fulcrum progressive springs in the rear with some koni reds i had laying around. Also replaced rack ends and tie rods rear gbox mount and lhs gbox mount and of course a few wiring issues but car is now on the road and am trying to use as much as poss. Also removed the towbar and had the last section of the exhaust replaced but for some reason they didnt run it the same diameter as the existing and personally dont like the look of it so will change it shortly but does sound ok.Threw the momos on and there it is.Further down the track i will put my spare motor in it as it has a bit of work don e too it-45mm dellortos/hc pistons/balanced/10548 cams/head ported and matched as are in let manifold and extractors.
I wonder if Matt Francis is at home with a box of tissues looking at these photos.

Hi 17fitty
Just to steer the subject away from the more erotic overtones it's taken on, what are you planning to do with the tow bar?
My Alfetta had one at some stage, but it's been removed.
Cheers
Steve
Adelaide
it looks great Carl!
;D
Great work, best thing ive seen in ages! If thats not motivation to finish my one (considering how much better condition it started in than yours), I dont know what is.
Hi Mate, do you live in the thomastown area? I think I have seen your car on the ring road getting off at edgars road and at the car was on mahoneys road next door to arb.
Looks good by the way
Nice! ,
Drive it around to the Scuderia tonight, working on the v6 front end, putting all the bits in from Mr Sharp!
Fun spending someone elses money :D

Ang--i live north of Bris ,but pretty sure it came from Vic but unsure where?
Brooke308-it still fighting me-rear brake line has collapsed so hoping new one to be here tomorrow.Heard there was some nice gear at the Scuderia ck chapter.
I bought it for the 2013 Shitbox Rally.
I flew to Melbourne and drove it straight home to Brisbane, effectively nonstop round trip.
I'm really happy to see it up and around, that car has good bones and a zest for life!!
The Momo Vegas look good too!

Including a link to the discussion with mat Francis who I bought it from.
There was a log book with the car describing some history - and V5 Simmons, what are they on now?

Rear brake line? Is it the flex line from the body to the transaxel?
Give me a yell if ur stuck I might have a spare.
love the colour - always thought that blue was due to the reproduction in old books/photos! Now I'll have to remove the bumpers and lower my '79 Alfetta!
Craig - the Simmons are sitting in my shed gathering dust!
*L* For a rainy day... I've got lots of parts just waiting too :)

The colour was one of the ways it fought me-3x times getting the paint lightened as to original le mans blue(if you need i still have the code in the bootlid)so is still a tad dark as per original inner 1/4 panels and code.
Gheers again George-new one arrived today/tonight and in tomorrow-then brakes-yay
How many photos would you like? I've got a few of it in the various stages of it's life- you might get a fright!
As for mine- well it's been in bits for the last 2 and a bit years, It'll get there one day.
;D im into frights .No there great.I took photos when i first got it but cant find them. Thanks very much
Well here's when he first backed it into the pole. Not so pretty.
Then there's the bottom end and the head gasket of the motor that is probably still in it. It came out of another alfetta that was given to us, and the motor was initially seized. Poured oil into it for a week and gradually freed it up. Built a different head and slapped it on it; assuming the motor hasn't been changed since I sold it to Craig, its probably done 60,000k since! Scott absolutely thrashed it too! Anyone who claims they are unreliable is kidding themselves.
;DThats fantastic that history, thankyou very much.I dont plan on selling fetta but plan on using it as much as poss.Fixed rear brakeline today and its going much betterSitting around in our QLD weather is crap for brakes etc.I totally enjoy driving it on our bruce hway between Cooroy and Gympie and am using it as a fuel saving option-bit of bumpsteer but thats worthit.
Next project........cheers
PS MATT-it is a tad fumey but pulls really swell-no warranty then????
I think there may be a certain barnfind that should be the next project... ;)
HMMM Derek-you got me thinking ???
17fitty
Your Alfetta looks fantastic, still looked great when Mat owned it
I've had mine for 3 years now daily driven and its been very reliable
and love it dearly.
Those who say they are unreliable are uneducated baboons.
Mines a GCL so has more electrics than a 80s LTD and plastic
Moulds like a VK Calias, love the numberless look on the earlier version.
Time to drop the front and ditch the bumpers.
Viva la Alfetta
Pardon the grammar errors at Soundwave as we speak.
Congrats on saving a great car
Never sell it !
Cheers

Showed this to the missus and she was very happy to know it's still being loved.

Brad,
Happy to put you and Anita on the dibs list (don't thing there's anyone else....)
as long as you promise not to turn it into a shitbox contender.
17fitty,
Love hearing about your updates, you can't kill these Alfettas, well you can if you blow
a spider gear in the transaxle, but the engines are very strong. Keep us posted
Keen to hear about your engine swap, are you considering an LSD transaxle ?
Nice work on the rear qtr panel too.
Recovered nicely thanks.
Curious that no ones mentioned a Twinsoark conversion, there's usually a bloke here
in Melbourne who would have posted by now.......
Not that you need too by the way up to you
What's that Pep ? I was distracted.... ;D
Hi guys
recently gave this baby a new lease in life
washed her
and ;D
THATS GREAT-i am thinking of the twinny but at the moment am going use it as my nearly everyday commuter, but am always looking for better performance .
Spectacular Joe! - so we'll see you at PI in a few weeks then ?
Thanks
Winton first in 2 weeks
I had the pleasure of driving 17fitty's Fetta on the weekend. I'd forgotten how good they are!
Very hard to beat for value for your hard earned, I reckon. Thanks 17fitty, made my weekend.
Now, to the for sale section. :D
Too easy pedro-cheers for the work on the 1750.Thought you might be looking for an rx4 or ac???
No rx4 for me, 17fitty. Love the originality, patina, but you know what they say old dog, new tricks an all. AC on the other hand, depends on the colour! I seem to like off white, bone or maybe even ivory. ;D
I swear this car looks just like the one I had in the 80's. Crashed into the back of a falcon panel van at a tram stop on Camberwell Rd; car off to Rugulo's for a new front panel and 1/2 right hand front guard. Sold to a guy from South Australia who knew how to handle Alfetta gearboxes. Not. Last I heard it was in Adelaide getting a new box. Maybe Alfa sold a bunch of Le Mans Blue Alfetta sedans with that inglish style roof aerial and side rubbing strip.
But the car I had was originally owned by Repco who used it as a test mule for some fuel injection development they were doing. The guy I bought it from was one of their engineers. Treated it with kid gloves, rebuilt the mechanicals and put a decent rotary compressor on the Aircon. I bought it 1985 with 54,000kms on the clock. Sold it 2 years later with 72,000 showing. Had a bit of fun in the meantime at Winton and various other places, and drove it to Adelaide and back more than once. Great cars.
I always wanted an Alfetta. I may have left it a bit late. There wouldn't be too many good ones left now. Everyone seems to be restoring GTV's, the sedans have mainly been forgotten. There wasn't many at Spettacolo last year. :'(
aggie57-thats interesting-dont suppose you have chassis number etc.I have pulled off the front right guard for a repair and didnt see any welds etc?but who knows could well have been changed at some stageThanks for the info.Any other defining features?
garibaldi-your right about the sedans being a bit scarce-one of my next projects is a 1974 alfetta sedan i will try and revive(as well as a couple of berlinas)If your real keen im sure one will pop up--good luck
Don't have the chassis number sorry but I think you'd see if it was the same car; the guard was only 1/2 replaced with the join around the shock turret. Could have been replaced again I guess of course...it did have the top of the rear seat repaired like yours but that was pretty common too.
If this is turning into an 'I love Alfettas' thread, then I'm in. I miss terribly Mario II, the great Alfetta Migliorata that took us on the shitbox rally in 2012. That was a great car - I hope it's enjoying a fine life in Far North Queensland...
How far north is was Mario????maybe you could be reunited?QLD as big as it is in the fetta world its a tad smaller and maybe mario will turn up?any photos so we know what to hunt.
As too the shitbox fetta it is trying me in all sorts of different ways.Seems there is a gremlin that plays with wipers /doors/indicators everytime i leave it overnight????but as yet i wont be beaten----quickly.The right hand indicator mainly works apart from where it feels like being random(have changed earths/wiring /globes etc and more patience).
Wipers-with our only bit of rain the other week thought id use my wipers and yep worked unreal then after a dozen strokes that beautiful plastic/wire fusion smell--proceeded to work----on the fetta. Now have wipers flat out only too suit our rapid but rare downpours.
Rear passengers door-has been a bit of a shite too close as in it shuts well very delicately but this morning on my nice fetta friendly winding hilly road the rear door flops open relentlessly.Pulled over and was a no side of the road fix so drove the 35km holding the rear left door shut-lucky im lanky.Dont know what i did apart from pull mechanism out and clean and install-now wont open from the outside as little cast lug broke off-anyone got lhs rear pass door handle for sale?/?
All in all loved driving it home and it is nearly 36years old .Gave it a polish and ready for tomorrow

Ah good old italian electrics, I just spent 4 hrs on the GTV, if I hold my toung right and cross my fingers all the tail lights now work, will just have to hope it all hangs together for the RWC.
The fuse carrier iis always a good place to start, I had 12v at the tail lights for the reversing bulbs but the globes would not light, cleaned the fuse ends and tightened up the fuse carrier and they came to life.
V5 Simmons originally came from Brizneeland, bought em from a bloke who worked for Avanti, put em on me Joolie and eventually they made their way to Melbyville where , after a series of unfortunate events and another Jolie, I Sold em to Mat. Good to hear they are rolling familiar roads again.

Mario II got auctioned in Cairns......and went for $20. We're both still a bit devastated about that, and kick each other regularly. He was a great, great car. We talked about bringing him back, but we didn't really have a plan to do it, and weren't sure if he'd make the drive, he was starting to feel a little tired after we'd trashed him through 3000km of outback (plus we knew where the rust was hidden). And we thought he'd go for about $400 at auction; if we'd known he was gonna go for $20, we'd definitely have bought him back. The chaps that bought him were planning on Khanacrossing with him, so hopefully he's living a suitable life up there.
Anthony the v5 simmons are on the forum for sale atm.I put the momos on it.Stupidly i sold a good set of b45s which also would have looked good-luckily the momos have good tyres or it would be running around on some steelies(which i like )Cheers for the info
Sheldon-thanks for the photos- looks like awesome fun and one day will do something similar-time and money pending.$20 bucks ---bargain......=2x drinks at cairns airport. :)
Carl is right - they are for sale on here at the moment. Hopefully they will sell and will go part way to some nice GTV6 wheels! Do you still have a couple of sets Carl?
No Rowan all gone-they took i while and i thought i wouldnt be getting back into the alfettas---and here i am.If i hear of anyone i will pass them your way.
Well its been a long time between drinks so thought id give an update on the"shitbox fetta".I drove it for a couple of years on the same ol smokey motor until the rust again started raising its nasty head--ongoing saga but after 6mths of casual welding etc again it lives and have given it another coat of "azzuro le mans"(or as close as i could get it)I usually work on the 50/50 paint job(from 50mph @50mt looks good)this paint job i reckon is a 30/30 so basically pretty stoked.
Took it for a blast and nearly got fumed out by ol smokey(amazing how one can get used to carbon monoxide)so decided on Friday an engine transplant was needed.Sunday motor out and 2nd hand 1984 alfa giullietta paddock basher motor was installed with the great help from brooke308 and his awesome 9yr old son Flynn-what an awesome other set of hands-thanks so much scuderia yandina ck.Of course could never be a simple bolt in job as the giulietta head is different as is intake manifold/carbs being different as in cable operated.Threw on the old intake only to find the head castings slightly different where thermostat is located---bring out the grinder---problem solved--then cast exhaust manifold flange broken----into brooke 308 alfa mancave and kindly donated a set of ansa extractors from his wall art--awesome and bolted up to existing exhaust--now lets drop the motor in--nope ball on throttle linkage had broken off--no spares around and forget trying to remove the pressed rubber vulcanised mount---after draining brooke308s extensive blunt drillbit range managed to drill a hole through the remainder of the bolt that the knuckle was attached to and put a long skinny bolt through it with a nylock nut--phew now can the motor go in---yay yep--so now all bolted in and wired up with the giulietta electronic ignition.Amazingly it started instantly and sat on idle--who said alfa engines are unreliable--this motor was t boned by a truck and written off hence i brought the wreck and my son thrashed this around the paddock with no love shown and sat in the paddock for at least the past 6yrs when i rescued it last year -again filled carbs with fuel and it started instantly.Again has sat for another year plus--now to do a short trip drain oil and put some good oil etc in it and ENJOY.
BIG THANKS 308BROOKE-AKA GIORGIO AND FLYNN-SCUDERIA YANDINA CK--MERRY XMAS SHITBOX FETTA AND ALL THE OTHER ALFISTI OUT THERE-BE SAFE AND KEEP THE GOOD LUBRICANTS FLOWING
Thats enough until the next rebirth and have a look at some up and coming fb threads coming out of Independant Custom Fabrication another Italian car nut up this way-quality handmade panels(metal shaping)and high quality rollcages at "keeping it real price range"
Cheers
That is no shitbox. More like a glory box.
Love that colour with the streamlined no-bumpers look. Nice work 17Fitty.
Very cool. Well done you for keeping an old faithful in the road. Great to get the update.
Awesome work Carl! I love that old Fetta.
If you're looking for a new home for old smokey, Ken Percival is looking for a bottom end donor for a race engine - block, crank etc.
Cheers,
Brent
cheers guys(gals) for the positive comments and will keep an update on the old fetta and as for the old engine atm i will be hanging onto it but if i come across another block etc ill let you know Brent--cheeers
Love the look of the front end with no bumpers!!!!. Nice work
