Title: ZF Steering Rack inner tie rod replacement on an Alfetta GT
Post by: AlfettaResto on October 05, 2013, 05:47:14 PM
Hi

how do you release the locking washer so you can remove the inner tie rod?  Are you suppose to lift up the tab on the washer that slides into the keyed section on the steering rack or just cut the flat end of the washer off so you can loosed the tie rod and then replace?

Any advice is appreciated

That is a lock tab/washer, just lift with screw driver or something, then if you have a really thin spanner you can use it to fit into the narrow flats to turn the joint to loosen or use a pair of vice grip on the joint.

Also there are two sizes of the inner tie rod, a thinner and a thicker thread, can't remember which is which, though the later model Alfetta ones are more common.  You will know once you have them out.
