Perhaps a slightly odd question, but has anyone ever found a source (gear cutting or otherwise) for lower diff ratios, like 4.7, 4.9 for the transaxle? I have seen and been offered the 4.3 ratios but looking at this as a gravel rally car looking to be using 2-3-4 instead of just 2-3.
Of course that fact that I only use 2-3 could be because I am slow, but anyway, thought I would ask.
Richard Anderson up your direction had some genuine Alfa 4.56s that he obtained for rally use a while back.

Well just completed the cars first event. Good news is the car performed as well as expected. Bad news is the conditions were diabolical. Being new I was running near the tail of the field of 52. The roads were used 3 times over the course of the event. There had been rain and it continued to drizzle all day. So by the time the GTV there the big boys in their 4WD turbos had cut them about and there was just a slurry of mud all over. So really hard to know just what I need ratio wise. When you are wheel spinning in 3rd gear going up hill not sure that using a lower ratio would help, other than to have bragging rights about wheel spinning in 4th.
Not a great night for a RWD car. I could not use the power I had. Which of course could be talent related. So ponder some more after the next hopefully dry event.
Hi, I'm just wondering what year model the 4.3 diffs come from? Also did the Australian cars get the 0.83 5th gear? I'm guessing 1.8 alfetta's and giulietta's. Any help would be appreciated as about to start building a box for track work.

The 4.3 diff was in all 1.6 engined cars, Giulietta's, Alfetta's, and 75's. Of these only the Giulietta was sold in Oz.
Thanks aggie57, how about the 0.83 5th gears, all the American forums mention it was standard for a lot of alfetta's, is that true for Australia? I thought we got the 0.79 ratio??

Sorry, don't know about that one. Some US cars had quite different ratio's to Australia and the rest of the world.
