Title: CAR SHAKES UNDER HIGH REV
Post by: mfroes on June 03, 2012, 12:43:17 AM
Hi Guys,
Just bought a GTV6 1985 and it was driving beautifully.
i just realised some things thou.
on any gear, under high revs, starts shaking soo much that i just stop accelerating hoping that it is not the gearbox.
any ideas guys?
another thing is that my clutch pedal is so high that it just engages almost all the way up, but they are hydraulic so i dont know if they are this high or if that need to get changed, as i guess that there is no way of regulating hydraulic clutches.

THANKS IN ADVANCE

driveshaft issue...

could be as simple as guibos being perished or... as bad as...

driveline out of balance...

as you would know.. the driveline on these cars comes in 2 drive shaft pieces w/ 3 guibos, but the whole unit is balanced at the factory...

one end is a spline.... re-insert at the wrong place, and the driveline is out of balance... at certain rpm it's felt much worse as the imbalance it resonates at a certain frequency...

u will have to see a specialist to see about it. I highly recommend benica in surrey hills. the developed a machine that is used to balance corvettes in the US that also have a rear transaxle. they are 116 specialists...

Re clutch question, these cars originally came with a twin-plate clutch that only fully engaged when the pedal was fully released.  If you are getting some drag on the clutch from low in the pedal but its not fully engaged until you let it out completely then you almost certainly have one of those.

If however there is no engagement at all until the very top of the travel then it is likely you have a later single plate clutch fitted but that it is either worn or the clutch master is poorly adjusted.  Either way I'd get the car fully checked at one of the specialists.  I see you are located in Qld so can't recommend any up there but I'm sure one of the Qld members will pick up your thread and suggest somebody.

Hi mfroes, welcome to the forum!

Although Mr Chuckles has some decent advice here, I wouldn't worry - you'll get these issues sorted pretty quickly and once sorted will just enhance your enjoyment of the GTV6.

There's a list of queensland Alfa service providers here: http://www.alfaclubvic.org.au/forum/index.php?topic=2803.0

If you haven't already, I highly recommend you join the Qld chapter of AROCA (http://www.arocaqld.com/).  The magazine is excellent and the technical registers will help you enormously with tracking down parts and service.  As a bonus, you might choose to get involved in club runs and events.
