Title: engine number, Alfa 147
Post by: gikku on April 27, 2012, 08:25:07 PM
looking to buy a 147.

I've seen two with a different engine number on the NSW rego papers than the number stamped on the Fiat manufacturer's plate in the engine bay.

one car, i saw the original dealer invoice with the same engine number as the rego, but different to the fiat manufacturer's plate

so it appears to me that the "motori-engine" number stamped on the Fiat manufacturer's plate in the engine bay, AR32310, is the engine series/model number, not the production or serial number of the engine, and that there are another 7 digits that are the engine serial number stamped on the block somewhere?

some rego papers have the 14 digit engine number starting AR32310*******, other papers just the 7 digit engine serial number.

does this appear to be correct for NSW registered Alfas (and perhaps Fiats too) ?  :)

I don't think it would matter if it had the complete engine number.

Fiat stamp only the engine series/model number on the chassis plate. This is what you need to order parts. The complete engine number with the serial number is only on the block.
