Hi Everyone,

What a fun day - a big thanks to Neil and all the officials. Here are some photos from Saturday's first runs:

Nice video Chris, thanks for posting.

Whats the "track" specs of your GTA, if any-if you dont mind sharing? LSD, tyres, suspension set-up?

I noticed the PI results in the wet-you did well!

Hi Martin, standard but for an (obligatory) Q2 diff.

Tyres are Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 ("road/track" , but not R-spec) which was a big advantage in the wet:

Front camber is at the adjustment limits, however (unfortunately) that means it is still +ve camber!

Chris, how many (dry) sprint days would you get out of a set? How are the brakes holding up? I remember smoking front rotors on a 3.2 GTV in full road trim at Wakefield when i came in after about 10 hard laps.. ::)

A couple of wet laps from Philip Island a few weeks ago. My first video so apologies from camera man "Shakin Stevens". I will need a little more work on camera  mounting . By the way camera is a little Kodak Z16.

Very good first video Gully. If that was "Shakin Stevens", my first was from "Peter Garrett"

Brilliant.

That camera takes a good picture, especially replayed at 720p.  Will look excellent without the shaking.  How did you have it mounted?

its good quality though.. so its the kodak Zi6 - right?

like this... http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Kodak-Zi6-HD-Pocket-Digital-Video-Camera-Pink-/170512872502?cmd=ViewItem&pt=AU_Digital_Video_Cameras&hash=item27b35bf436

How and where do you have it mounted?

I agree with Sheldon, that its great @720p - what was the actual upload file size of that 6 min video?

(is yours pink??)

Jim & Sheldon, Yes it is the kodak Zi6 as you have illustrated on ebay & recommended by Stuart Thompson on an earlier post.

My car is an Alfetta GTV which still has the full interior trim ( no roll bar to mount the camera ) . After a bit of fiddling around i established the best place for the camera was in the middle on the car , above the drive tunnel and at about the top of the seat height. I then fabricated an aluminum arm that came off the passenger seat head rest using a product from Capral Aliminum called Qubeloc . You can also get it at Bunnings

http://www.spacepac.com.au/Brochures/Shelving/Qubelok/Aluminium_Tube_and_Nylon_Joints_1pg_wp.pdf

Worked OK but the seat has to much movement on the trace. ( only cost $10.00 to make)

I'm going to make another one for Winton. This time using qubeloc, but mounting it securely to the body.

My plan this time is to triangulate the mounting system. So the three mounting points will be via  a simple hop ( 3 pieces of qubeloc tube & 2 right angle joints from the 2 ashtray's in the wall on either side of the rear seat of the GTV). Then a bracing stay to the top of the rear seat. On the top of the hop i will make a small cage to hold the camera. This should weight less than 500 grams and be able to be installed and removed in a couple of minutes and not wreck any of the interior trim.

Yes Jim , it is pink ( well a light metallic pink) I purchased the camera after looking at a video Phil Baskett did will a similar camera at PI Historics this year.

The upload time for the 6min video was approx 15 mins and the camera is very simple to use.

Cheers

Paul.. do you think that this type of mount for the zi6 would be useful?

But I have finally decided that I am going to get a zi6 as well - its a shame they are pink...

Hi Jim (and Paul)

I was looking at the very same mounts, and Stuart says it will vibrate like crazy.  So I too will have to fabricate something, doing it this weekend.  There are other suction camera mounts, but will shake too.

Jim,

that is a mobile phone holder, there is no way it's suitable for a camera, it will definitely shake.

well, I didn't mean to use it as displayed in the photos - I was more thinking of just using the part that holds the (phone) camera and anchoring that to the car solidly, rather than trying to attach the body of the camera direct..I don't think it would work very well dangling from the windscreen either...

chris... On the link that you posted I found this camera...

http://www.racerecall.com.au/pov15.html

Its expensive, but it looks like it would be perfect for what I have been looking for...

I used the same camera last week at Winton open practice, worked well, I race taped it to the passenger seat but the angle was wrong so got lots of sky and dash, not much road, so footage was no good.

I was thinking of getting an ebay $40-50 tripod job and somehow bolting that into the rear passenger area, will try it out with my good Manfrotto tripod and see if it could fit.
