Title: Twin spark no oil coming to filter
Post by: Rigi on September 09, 2018, 02:58:07 PM
Recently incurred a hairline crack to the sump and after replacing it have found no oil being pumped thru to filter .... appreciate any thoughts as to what is happening. Thanks

When you removed the sump you would have had to remove/loosen the Sump Oil Pickup.

Did you remember to re-attach/re-fasten it?

Did you refit the gasket between the Pickup and the Oil Pump mounting?

Thank you for the input and yes to both questions ...🤔

Further .... having had the sump on and off 4 times we decided to leave itoff and hold an ice cream container with a couple of litres under the oil pick up and got the oil to pick up ie proved it would pick up
Next we changed the oil to 5/40 and still got low oil pressure warning
Surprisingly by increasing the rpm to just over 1000 the warning went away ... increased gradually up to 3000 and it stayed off .... dropped down sub 1000 and warning came back on 🤔🤔🤔🤔faulty sender ??? ... what pressure does warning come on ??🤔🤔

It's possible it is the sensor, fortunately they are cheap and easy to replace.

If you still have the problem after replacing the sensor you will have a faulty oil pump, not so easy or cheap to replace.  :(

Was there any damage around the oil filter/heat exchanger perhaps?

Looking like making it for the weekend?

How did the diagnosis pan out? Any "gotchas" to share?

Hi,

I have seen this problem before, the oil pump is built into the front timing cover, there are around 10 bolts that secure the back plate, these sometimes come loose on these motors and cause a loss of oil pressure at low revs.

I can't say if in your case this is the cause of the problem, but just thought I'd share from experience in the event it might help.

Cheers.

Mick.
