Just my luck one day after my introduction, on my way to work taking off from lights, the car starting getting all jolty and engine light started flashing. Only live 20mins from work, so checked it when I got there.
Got a loud hiss/wizz noise at the top of engine cover on left side. Above the red cap.
Car is suddenly running heavy, seems jolty when accelerating. Anzac day in 2 hours, so will have to bring it home tomorrow after my night shift ends rather then a mechanic :(

Do you mean left side of engine while facing the engine bay while standing in front of the car?
IF SO DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES START THE ENGINE!!!!!
You need to check the wiz sound is not the Timing belt or Balance belt starting to let go or strip teeth!!!!
I do hope I am wrong and it is something much more innocent, but I don't believe in coincidences. All the symptoms by themselves are quite innocent, add them all together . . . . . . .
You will need to remove the accessory belt cover and the screws from the top half of the timing belt cover to allow you to pull it back far enough to get a good look inside. Its a job you can do yourself, can just be a little fiddly at times.

I agree with Baz, it will be belt related and hopefully you haven't already damaged the engine.
I wouldn't advise to try work on it yourself if you aren't mechanically minded, I would advise to just have it towed from wherever it is now to your local specialist and not start the engine again before the mechanic can inspect and diagnose the problem.
This advice could potentially save you thousands of dollars so I do genuinely hope you take it.

Road side assist came, its running on 3 cylinders. He couldnt hear the noise but I assume as was only in neutral. Catching the bus home, will use my free tow tomorrow when everything reopens.
So you already ignored our advice and started the car up?

Just for shit's and giggles I'm going to take a guess at what's wrong with your car, maybe I'll be right and you'll see we aren't full of shit on here and possibly might have a clue what we are on about.
I guess it needs an injector replaced. if not an injector a coil pack.

Neph, we are all friendly and helpful here, if it is not the timing belt you have dodged a bullet, if it is not the injector you have saved yourself a bit of labour and cost, if it is a coil pack, easy fix and you dodged another bullet, good luck. And another bit of advice, keep watch on oil level, daily/weekly, use good oil to top up, 10w60, I use Penrite 10 tenth Premium 10 10w60.
And, yes, don't start the motor, you are likely to bent 18 of the 20 valves. Too late now. You can turn the motor by hand to see. Thin wall 17mm on the crank pulley.

I put my money on a coil pack, for your sake. Also when was the timing belt changed last, if more than 3 years or unknown, have it change immediately.

Hello Mick I didnt mean to frustrate you, I did a passive shift at work. get 2 hours work, then sleep at work 6 hours then work 4 hours. I really didnt have much time to think between being busy at work. Public holiday made it worse, would of just gotten it towed with no drama but as I rang the RAA for the tow, there mechanic had a look over for 10mins then after talking wanted to hear it.
I have been in the middle of doing it up, so this cost isn't the greatest thing. In 2010 I believe same thing happened, I attached the costly receipt from belcar when it was called prestige. Since then went to italsport which doesn't seem to detail anything they do. So not sure when timing belt was last done.
