Title: timing belt on 75 3.0
Post by: johnnyc on September 30, 2010, 05:59:11 PM
hi all,

still getting the car registered and scouting around for various parts to get the thing up to speed.

the timing belt hasent been changed for some time i expect so will tackle that now to avoid an engine disaster.

i would be interested to know what else could, or should be done at the same time. any tricks or parts i need to know about or look out for. would you change the water pump at the same time as a precautionery measure??

thanks for your replies so far.

cheers

jc

If you don't know the service history of this car and you want to do some preventative maintenance consider the following:

Replace all hydraulic fluids
Replace all lubricants
Replace all coolants
Replace all hoses including radiator, heater and brake, clutch.
Replace fan belt, air con belt and camshaft belt.
Replace all spark plugs
Replace battery if more than a year old
Replace seat belts
Check condition of spare tyre
Replace all filters
Replace wiper blades
Replace alternator brushes and starter motor brushes.
Regrease front wheel bearings

Don't change the water pump unless it is leaking or has a noisey bearing.

Most critical?

Replace camshaft belt
Replace hydraulic fluids.
