Too sweet for words Scott, only one question, would you think it is still running a 1600 or perhaps a very nicely worked 2L.  Hmn I wonder  ;D

There's certainly something special about that 1600....  it almost has a little supercharger whine to it as it roars past..     Still that's one of the beautiful things about the alfa 4  -  endless options to baffle the scrutineers...

Ah ha that makes sense, I had wondered if the car was running a straight cut gearbox, but a supercharger, an hmn interesting thought Scott  8), I wonder how difficult it might be to fit something like that up.

BTW, I don't suppose you might have any news re the 1600 delivery, I only ask as if it is proving difficult re the transport, we could always go back to the original plan.  I am happy to do that if it would help you.

That footage was great but the in-car footage is even better

Are you guys serious?  I don't want to sound like an insufferable arse, but that engine sounds pretty average to me.  I've driven, and been passed by, better sounding engines than that (2000s admittedly), mostly exclusively ones built by Vin Sharp.

I reckon this is pretty sweet for a 4 cyl...

This one's quite nice too, although admittedly a couple of decades after the Alfa twin cam...

And since I'm partial to a 6 cylinder engine, see what you think of these ones...

And since we're at it, let's have a V12...

....and a V16....

And what I consider to be the best sounding automotive engine I've yet heard, the MG Metro 6R4.....

Sorry for being an arse....

Come on Sheldon - don't gild the lily - tell us how you really feel ;)

Merlin engines.....  you must have seen these ?

But Sheldon seriously mate you are but an insufferable ar@@se, but since when does that bother us :).  I think the point was that the Super in question was sweet rather than which is the best sounding engine.

If you wish to go there, for sure many others you have posted and perhaps also ditto Scott, are indeed richer, even more glorious, but can you seriously compare a 4cl Alfa Twin cam against a V12 Merlin or Griffon engine out of a Spit or the V16BRM.

If you want to go down that road why not get yourself a copy of Nick Mason's Into the Red, put it on your CD play at full volume and step back to hear some seriously wonderful engines.  I have on the odd occasion put my copy on and undoubtedly pissed my neighbours off big time.  Well what else might you expect when playing the CD at 2am in the morning :) !!!  Mind you I suspect I might have been just slightly hammered  ;D ;D.

As for the Spitfire, well having heard them up and close at both the Biggin Hill air show and at the Goodwood Revival meeting in the UK some years ago I know just how great they sound for real, oh ditto the Ferrari 250 GTO on full song or even a Ferrari Dino 246GT for that matter, of which I have had the immense pleasure to experience first hand, and from the inside.

For anyone else hunting for it - The 3rd revision of Into the Red is called 'Passion for Speed'  and includes a '64 TZ1 !  And something called an Enzo too apparently...

Cheers Sheldon, I hope you know I wasn't having a dig at you or anything personal.  We all go off on tangents at time, myself especially :).

Oh great I am glad I then am not the only person to have this affliction for needing to play the CD at full volume.  Yep know what you mean re the book.  Nick Mason sure is one very wealthy but also lucky bugger.

Oh, I meant to ask when are you heading off on the Shitbox Rally? as I was going to donate some $$ to the cause.  Can imagine it is going to be one hell of a great adventure.

Ah thanks for that Scott, must look it up.

Middle of May we'll be driving up to Brissy, for the start on the 21st;  it's getting scarily close.....
