Title: 147 JTD - Deisel
Post by: Mark Fletcher on September 21, 2010, 08:31:24 AM
Hi,

We have a 147 JTD in our Alfa Family... it is a hard working girl and has now done over 140,000 kms. It is getting very noisy - deisels are always tap,tap tappy... but this one seems to be getting much louder as time goes on. I do not know much about deisels... so any suggestions what this may be???

Thanks
Mark

Anyone got any suggestions... I have been reading up on the common rail diesels... seems Like Injectors are at fault... another 10,000 k since my last post...

Any suggestions for someone who is an expert with injectors?

has the car thrown up a code, i'd get this one examined before i suspected the injectors as usually u'd have far more obvious issues.

I'm no diesel expert but am having a hard time associating 'increased noise' with injector...

Have u noticed any other symptoms? reduced power and hesitancy down low?

when was the last time your EGR was cleaned or replaced?

How about asking the local Afla Dealer or Alfa Workshop to give an opinion at your next service.  At 10,000 kms its due for a simple oil change anyway.

On petrol engines an engine rattle is often caused low oil level (with the incorrect quality spec oil used as well) .

They would be be able to give an expert opinion and use the Alfa factory diagnostic check on your car that would give a result.

Cheers.
