I'm in the middle of restoring a 1750 GTV and have repaired an awful sunroof hole but am not 100% happy with results. Does anyone have or know of a donor car or happen to have a roof (including pillars) for sale?

Last post by festy - April 29, 2024, 10:11:25 AMThe paint has had 6 weeks to harden, time to see how it scrubs up.
Started with a very light (actually too light) colour sand, then cutting compound, then followed by a polish.
Then I realize I was too gentle with the colour sanding, so repeat the whole process.
It's a long way from perfect, but I'm happy enough with how its coming up.
Now, to find where I hid the rest of the chrome trim 10 years ago...

• Factory fitted triple carburettor Super Sport engine
• One of only 8 6C 2500s shipped to Australia in period
• Single family ownership for 69 years
• Fewer than 20 of this unique specification still exist
• Owner's manual, keys, spare parts book and original tools
The bodyshell has been completely restored and re-painted to a very high standard.
The engine and other mechanical components have been reconditioned.
Interior trim replacement and a considerable amount of re-assembly is required.
A list of parts present, and those identified as missing, will be supplied.
To be sold by Donington Auctions (www.doningtonauctions.com.au) in Cheltenham on 19th May 2024.

My experience with Valvoline Techtyl 506 for over 40 years has been a good one. If oxygen is excluded in the oxidisation of iron, no rust is created. This is simply how that stuff works. Protected artillery armaments dumped on Okinawa beach and still works today.
Dukster, you are showing no mercy.
Two "older" models of Volvo and VW had a propensity of having the plastic falling off the copper conductors particularly in the engine bay where petro-chemical fumes would naturally be present. The plastic insulation having come from oil in the first place was simply breaking down trying to go back home..
Funny enough Alfa during that time never had the insulation breakdown issues but they didn't understand current distribution loads and that the ignition switch was not the only gate for electron flow.

General Discussion / Corrosion Awareness Day

However a work colleague (metallurgist), reminded me Wednesday 24th April was Corrosion Awareness Day. Very serious stuff. Apparently corrosion last year had a global economic impact of US$2.5 trillion!
Can't be all bad news as preventing and dealing with corrosion must employ millions of people.
Nevertheless, I hope we are all doing something to mitigate the conversion of our beloved cars back to iron oxide. I regularly check the drain holes of doors and door sills etc. What are others doing?
