General Discussion / Re: Windscreens for limited p...
Last post by Craig_m67 - May 14, 2024, 06:25:15 PM
When I contacted the O'Briens/RACQ about a windscreen for the Duetto they said they can't get them, won't get them and would likely write the vehicle off.  Pushing them on this as it sounded silly (but I'm not insured with them), they gave me the number and address for the Co. that made them (Duetto) for Aust. and who still have the molds. I didn't follow this any further as I was very lucky to find a windscreen.

I'd suggest rechecking freight costs.  When I enquired direct to DHL Aust. for a retail price, collection from ClassicAlfa (in a specific cardboard windscreen box), it was actually quite reasonable ($3-400./ vs the $2.5K quoted by Alfaholics).

General Discussion / Windscreens for limited produ...
Last post by mn1 - May 14, 2024, 05:13:54 PM
Just wondering what people do for limited production or older vehicle replacements. Pilkington UK can supply screens for all my cars including a Porsche 904 replica which I found astonishing but freight is the killer. Anyone successfully applied some clever lateral thinking and come up with a solution??

Motorsport Administration / SET= Self Extraction test)
Last post by giulia_veloce - May 14, 2024, 09:33:29 AM
As from January 1-2024,,Self Extraction Tests are to be carried out at ALL Motor Racing Events,,including Sprints (Supersprints),Club,State,National + International events.

What is required= the driver,,,fully kitted in race conditions, comes to the Scrutineering Bay etc,,and get out of the car in 15 seconds.

2025 will be 10 seconds.

For those with Log Booked cars,,it will be entered into your log book= SET Pass, with name + licence number.

For those without log booked cars,,times will be recorded with name,,licence number and be given to the Organising Club,,,to keep a record,,and Submitted to Motorsport Australia.
If you drive another car,,,another test will be required for that car.

Example,,,a car goes out on the Circuit for a race meeting Practice,,Qualifying,,,etc,,,goes Straight to the Scrutineering bay etc,,where an Official will make sure you have all the Safety gear on= helmets,,seat belt, harness etc.
He will brief you on what is required= Get out of the car within 15 Seconds.

We have conducted Hundreds of these tests,,with very few failures,,mainly in Log booked cars with Roll cages,Harnesses,,Hans devices,Helmets,Race seats, window nets etc.

Its a bit of fun,,but practice it before you get checked.

All to be completed by December 31st 2024,,where 2005 will be 10 seconds.

Last post by Mike K - May 12, 2024, 10:03:06 AM
Hi
Recently purchased a half completed 79 Sprint project and I am after any info regarding the car.

1979 Alfasud Sprint Veloce 1.5, Silver, last rego 710 KMT 2010

In the paperwork I received with the car the possible last owner was Doug Newall, so if anyone has any info at all it would be appreciated.

Regards

Mike

If I remember correctly you been threatening to do that for the past 2 years?  ;)

Yes, thanks. That's what we've done for the time being.

What was the part number of the original OEM hose?

Ah no, still ensconced.  I just had to move sheds and the collection of parts that once assembled resemble a Duetto.   I have a few bits I don't need; 2L engine[1], cams[10548?], gearboxes[2], spare new S2 nose panels, new seat pans[2], old LSD[1].   It's all now literally across the road, I can walk to "work".

So working out what to keep and what to bin/tip (shortly) as the new space is limited and moving stuff that doesn't bring "Joy" is an anathema.  So, in the bin!

Thanks VIN for the response, if anybody wants something let me know.

As a side question (as this is years away).  What would make a better street motor.  Twin spark, ported with carbs/ITBs (usual fruit).  Or the 2 litre Nord, ported with carbs, existing 123.  I like the idea of the Nord as I can keep my cross over air filter (stock look) but wonder if keeping this intake would defeat any porting/breathing/engine mods.  Then I could sell the TS to buy some heritage jenvey jewellery...

I'm after an engine that will make good torque and rev/spin up quickly.  I've been ruined by the 1750tbi in the GQV... which possibly needs an oil change, defo overdue a wash (just been used as a Ute) and would be the best retrofit choice if a gearbox (mx5) was available.
