Hi All,
Im in the process of getting an unregistered vehicle permit in SA and the VIN number field on the relevant website insists I have a 17 character VIN number.
Well mine is only 14, as is every other Alfetta GT and GTV that Ive had / seen.
Adding to this ... theres a host of international websites where you can perform a VIN lookup on Alfas / Fiats and they also insist on a 17 character VIN.
Are there 3 other numbers / letters that one adds to the VIN?
The VIN consists of 17 characters and for the Alfetta series "ZAR" constitutes the first 3 characters (country of origin/world manufacturer identifier). Refer to Wikipedia at the following link https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_identification_number
So mine is AR116110001640 ... 14 characters.
Do I add a Z to the front? 15 characters.
Surely its not ZARAR116110001640.
Try ZAR11600 then the last 9...
If I am not mistaken the VIN number is ZAR11637 and the last 9 characters, ie; ZAR11637110001640.
Using both the 00 and 37 options tells me my 1975 Alfetta GT is actually a 2005 156.
Thats on https://www.vindecoderz.com/
At https://decode.youcanic.com/ both options revealed an Alfetta GT ... but wanted me to pay for the report, nope.
Anyway ... thanks for the input folks. Its not really a big deal but the cars history would be interesting.
Check out the register 3 topics down it will give you an idea of whats happening i hope
What model alfetta do you have
Ignore VIN decoders on Alfa's of that age. Yes, the world started to call them a VIN but we all called them Chassis numbers, as did Alfa.
