Title: History of Alfa nose colour

Does anyone know the background to the different nose colour as used on the old race cars?

During the 1980-'s (or thereabouts) thee was an Alfa race series in Holland, Squadra Bianca which involved Giulia sedans and I believe that one of the requirements of competitors in the series was that their car/s had to have a coloured front nose panel. Barry

I always though it was just like jockeys silks, different colours and patterns so they could tell them apart on the track.
