i have two 2ltr motors, one has had lots of work done and the other leaks oil,
so i want to swap the engines but looking at both engines, one has a manifold that is connected to the radiator,
and the other doesnt?
what are they?
what are they for?
and is it better to have it or not?

This doesn't really answer your question but also keep in mind that the earlier engine in the top picture has a Rod and Linkage accelerator linkage.
While the later engine in the lower picture has a cable operated accelerator.
Being Alfettas this mean the pedal box is slightly different to allow the accelerator cable access in the later car.
The Rod and Linkage setup from the earlier engine mounts to the carby flexible mounts.
These mounts are different on the later motor and don't have the mounting points.
I overcame this by making up an new bracket which mounts via the carby mounting posts.

hay brad the one with the stock box has a 1.8 style manifold and the flat one is off a 2.0. well im guessing because all my 2.0s i have had, had the flat housing and my 18s have the housing that hangs out a little bit.
also i thoguht u where selling your gtv ? i mite b intrested in parts....
