Just wondering where the best wreckers is for Alfa parts.
Need to go wheel shopping :D and maybe some other bits.
Good question. I've been wondering that for 3 years!
I haven't really come across anyone with decent Alfa stock - the guys at Cileberti's in Ossie Park seem to be able to find second hand parts when they need to, maybe try them.
What sort of wheels are you after?
Your best bet maybe to hunt around on Gumtree for a privately owned "parts" car, may even be cheaper to buy a whole donor, depending what you are after.

Well...wheel wise here is the scenario....
The 2002 GTV I recently purchased has non-alfa 5 spoke rims in 17" and 1 has a small ding.
So I will either have the ding fixed and get new tyres OR put a good set of used OEM Alfa wheels on it.
Love teledials but who doesn't. Even a set of 16" teledials with fair tyres on them would tempt me as I actually prefer the ride of the 16".
But always handy to know which wreckers to go to.
I use Chileberti's for servicing so yep am aware of them :) Leo and the guys are awesome.
Other bits I may be after....well at present it's really just passenger side window mechanism, but depends if Leo can fix the one i have on my next visit.

I prefer teledials too, and wish the prior owner hadn't replaced the ones on my 156. But I have grown to love the look of my aftermarket 17 inchers.
There is a regular "Steve" on gumtree wrecking a series 1 156 which has (or had) teledials. He's in mount lawley.
The 156 wheels have a different offset to the GTV wheels so they scrape.
At least they did on the set I tried.

I'm at this stage just going to go for the cheapest option to fix the vibration i get from the dinged wheel and worn tyres.
So if that ends up as "fix ding and get new tyres" then that's what I'll do.
I'm the same as you......the 5 spokes are actually growing on me already lol.
But if there's a bargain set of 16's out thhere with more than 50% tread and no shudders....then I'll take that option :D

Offset is wrong :( So I'd need spacers.
Looking more like just living with the 5 spokes and repairing + new tyres given RE003's will only set me back about $500.

Thanks mate. I think we were posting at the same time but great to have conformation of my findings.
I'm not a fan of spacers and 10mm would be big ones.
So I think I'll stick with fixing the dinged rim and getting RE003's all round. No rush.

That said, to stay on topic, WAers do still post info on good alfa wreckers in perth as I'm sure it will be of use at some point ;)
I can recommend a really good rim repairer in Malaga - Alliance Rim Repairs. Quick efficient and not too expensive. They will be able to do whatever you want, from simple fix to full refurb.
BTW - not sure if the 147 wheels have same offset as the 156, but there is a local guy selling a set of 3-circle 147 teledials on gumtree.

have to agree that even though the teledials look the best, those rims do suit your ride Ugame.
They are not too dissimilar to mine.

Kind of why I'm suddenly more active on this forum actually. I love ausalfa.com also, but not many WA guys on there and I want to get to know the local crew and possibly join the Alfa Club as well.
Want to get into some more track days etc.

Re track including competition, dont tempt me. You'll make me wish I'd kept the silver 98 GTV as that was rough enough around the edges to make me "enjoy" it more than my newer black 2002 GTV in such situations.
Have done a timed 2 day Classic Rally (Paul Blank's old events) in my Nissan 350Z, and a timed MC event in my Chrylser 300C.
In the not too distant future, I want to get into the Targa sprint series and then Targa West. You only live once.
I'm sure you would be able to get in as an intended new member, it starts 7pm. Good chance to meet others from the club. I suspect tonight will be "well attended".

Very good. Have to say the youngish Alfa sales guy john went out of his way to answer questions, and show the cars off. We had the place to ourselves. They've got a dark blue QV, which he fired up, a black Veloce, a red Veloce and a couple of Supers. Plus a 4c, and obviously plenty of giuliettas. We could pore over them, get in em, anything except drive em. (Might have to go back for a test drive).He said they aren't allowed to sell the blue QV for at least a year, they have to keep it for test drives, but they have been promised six more (first couple already sold).
It's even better looking in the flesh, and I have to say the black Veloce looked spectacular, as it had red leather which isn't available in the QV.
Apparently they will be taking the QV to a club track day later this year.
Worthwhile way to spend a couple of hours, without being hassled by a bunch of salesmen as normally happens when you walk into a showroom. Plus was good to see a bunch of old Alfas in the lot of new Alfa dealership.

Keeping in mind, rear tyres are worn (still legal) and produce road noise.
There's a small ding in 1 which I have been quoted $250+GST to fix including full respray which they insisted would be required due to the use of heat to take the bend out.

Does the ding cause any shuddering, or impact driving/handling in any noticeable way?
If not, I'd just advertise them as is in good roadworthy nick, and start around $600 with existing tyres, and negotiate from there. If they were immaculate you could ask for more, but looking at gumtree, 2ND hand wheels have to be pretty special to get nearer to $1K.
Was that quote from alliance? They charged me less than $100 to fix mine, and they had to weld up a great big crack in the rim. It was inner rim though, so not visible and I needed no respray etc.
The ding + the tyres cause a "Dugga dugga dugga" but no steering vibration (given it's on the rear on my car)

If they are making a noise, yep $400 is probably more like it. But to get that, you'll have to start a bit higher.

Not after heaps or wanting to dream. Just sell them off at a fair price and offset some of the cost of my RE003's
If I actually liked these wheels, I'd have paid for the fix, but I'm really not a fan.
BTW - if you haven't already, you may want to have a look at the post "Hub Centre Bore and wheel hub size" in General section. One of the Perth guys is changing wheels and is double checking issues he might have. Just in case you have any issues fitting the new wheels to your GTV.

The rims I got from john are I'm pretty sure 916 GTV Ph2 wheels, and my car is a ph2 916.
Never the less, it had niggled me that perhaps I should test fit one before getting the tyres on.
So after reading your comment and the thread, I did just that.
The 17s I have now have a plastic hubcentric ring for fitment I discovered. Remove that, and the 16s from John fit snug as a bug.
So new tyres tomorrow then a saturday of more garden digging and wheel fitment.
I do need to double check the bolt lengths before fitting the wheels, but at least I know the wheels fit so good for the new rubber.
Interestingly, is it normal for the rear wheel spindle to rotate free of the disk, when all 5 bolts are removed? Or am I missing a locking screw or something?
Hmm, I don't actually know. Is it the same on both rears? If so, I guess it would be normal. Maybe post the question on the 916/932 section. Someone will answer soon enough.

Only tested 1 corner tonight as it was dark and I just wanted to make sure they fit so I'll know more on the weekend.
At the end of the day, its no biggie as once you line the holes up, the 5 bolts hold them together anyway.
Was just odd as because of the setup, the holes can get out of line which was a pain and caught me out lol.
Never come across anything like it. But meh, most of the cars I've played with have studs not bolts which make life easier (unless you snap one)

Mine does NOT have that locating lug (I just names it that) you can see in the top of the hub face, hence why the hub and disk can rotate independent of each other when the bolts are out.
Probably taken out to fit the aftermarket wheels I would assume.
I may get a set as will make mounting the wheels SO much easier.
Good idea. I agree, fitting is easier with studs. Does the hub face have a hole in it where the locating lug would go? If not, (and back to the original topic of this thread!) you could pull a factory hub off a wreck.
Its interesting though - I never really looked at my hubs when I last had the wheels off.

Yep there is a hole there with nothing in it. Spotted that in the darkness last night but wasn't sure if it was a drainage hole or something.
I've been spending too much time doing a bearing job on the rear drum of my 74 Beetle I think ;)

...and now I'm waiting on Auto1 who have just ordered me 20 new wheel bolts with a thread length of 37mm as the ones that were used for the 17" wheels where only a 24mm thread and are no way long enough to give a decent bite once clear of the original GTV 16" wheel.
Simple wheel change job on hold lol.
Only $6 each which I thought was very reasonable.
So now I guess I'll ask Chileberti's to order in the locating lugs given I have to wait for bolts anyway.
Do it once. Do it right!
(Well my original plan was "just do it this weekend" but meh lol)

How frustrating is that? What should be a simple 30min job ends up taking hours/days/weeks while you wait for bits. If you don't want to wait, you could call one of the Gumtree guys parting cars and see if you can get some wheel nuts this weekend.
Or try Oxford Spares in leederville. I managed to get a sealed beam headlight for my 81 GTV straight off the shelf there last week. I reckon they would be a chance to have the bolts in stock.

Na it's all good. They've been ordered now so I'll just wait and use the time to get those locator lugs too.

Fitted the new wheels and tyres today with one of my kids. Actually he changed 3 of the 4 with my guidance. Great bonding time.

The wheel shop has etched the word "back" in the dirt on one of my wheels and that one had many weights on it.
So when I have time in the next few days, I'll take a wheel off the 147 (which produces no noises) and try it on each corner.
If that doesn't fix it, then it's something else :(
It's not bad and given there are no vibrations it's more annoying than a huge concern.
If it were a dry bearing or CV joint I'd expect vibration AND I would expect Chileberti would have picked it up. So it's either a bad balance, bad new tyre, or just something rubbing somewhere.
Flat spot maybe? Or wheel balancing.
Teledials on my first 156 gave a small shudder whenever I was doing 95-100kph. Slightly out of round, and needed rerolling. But it was so slight I just put up with it.
shouldn't be a flat spot on brand new tyres.
Bad balance is my guess but we'll see.
PS: The word to the wife is "yes of course the new wheels and tyres fixed all my issues honey" ;) ;)
Another interesting thing on the 17's that I REMOVED from the car.....
on the back it states 2 possible 4 stud patters and 1 possible 5 stud pattern being......
5 x 100
Given they are a 5 stud pattern, either these were a custom 5x98 OR the last owner squeezed a set of 5x100's onto the alfa.
Not sure yet.
Will see if a local wheel shop can shed any light for me with a measuring tool or something.
If they are 5x100 then I guess that opens up potential future owners of the wheels.

"Dugga dugga" noise is pretty much gone now.
It was annoying me still on a backroad drive today so I thought I'd start simple.....
Stopped at a garage and checked the pressures as keep in mind these are fresh tyres and they fitted them to wheels NOT on the car so had nothing to go by for pressures.
They were all up at 42 PSI.
I dropped all 4 to 35 PSI which is what I run on the same tyres on my 147, and what I used to run on the 98 GTV.
The ride is INSTANTLY smoother, less road noise, and from what I can tell, no more noticeable dugga dugga.
Now I'm suspecting that there may still be a slight balance issue but that now it is being soaked up by the extra give in the rubber.
Meh....that's a fix as far as I am concerned.
Will continue to monitor.
42 PSI is way higher than I ever run, 35 much more sensible. I generally have the 156 at 36.
Weirdly, the factory recommendation for my 81 GTV on 15" wheels is only 28. But that just seems too low to me, so I generally run them at 30-32.

So I may next try swapping 1 wheel from my 147 on each rear. There is zero vibration though so I'm now thinking it may be a dry bearing or CV or something.

What a pain. I'd be surprised if its a bearing - but I'd bet real money that one of your wheels is slightly out of round.
On my first 156, it wasn't until the workshop took my wheels off and put on some "good" wheels from a 147 in the shop that they knew the noise and vibration was due to a slightly out of shape teledial. Only needs a fraction of a defect to have an impact. And teledials are notorious for being soft and getting knocked out of shape really easily. As I said it was slight enough that I never bothered getting the wheel rerolled - but it did mean my tyres wore slightly unevenly.

Very very slight buckle. Ironically, on the exact same corner as the bent 17" I pulled off haha.
Not the same kind of buckle before anyone suggests it's the axle. Totally diferent and much less.
So I'll live with it and just keepo my eyes open for another set of original 16" GTV wheels.
No bigge and at least now I know why I still have the same (but less) sound.

Yep may look into the price of that down the track.
Other things will take priority now first. E.G. passenger side window mechanism. New rear shocks (1 leaks), Louder exhaust :D etc
Hope you don't need a new motor for the window. They are expensive...

Yeah Leo will be taking a look next time the car goes in. Said he can sometimes repair the mechanism and will let me know if it can be repaired or needs to be replaced.

Well to update this thread in an unexpected way, the car developed a constant noise that I deduced to be rear left wheel bearing (or related).
Took it in today and they replaced the bearing which was shot, and no grinding noise....
.....and NO DUGGA DUGGA!!!!
So while yes, the wheel above is slightly out of true, it wasn't the main issue. The bearing was!

Funny story.
Dropped the car off with the instruction "Problem is rear left bearing but do both, and see if you can fix the passenger window too as discussed last time"
They later rang me with the price of the 1 bearing (coz they know I work to a budget).
..."ok let's do the 1 bearing and leave the window for today" lol.
Their labor is fine and no issues with them at all. Love Leo and the guys to bits. But Alfa OEM parts prices can hurt sometimes ;)
So the window will stay "up" for now lol.
Yep, been there before - I regularly space out repairs when they are not urgent. One of the positives when I bought my 156 was that the guy had just had new motors fitted to both back doors, which together would have cost at least half of the $3800 I paid for the whole car!
