Alfa Island Pics....post 'em here.
Neil Choi sent me this one this morning. Thanks Neil!
Lots more to come, I will post some and a link to an album here late tonight.
Neil
A short HD video of my car and Paul Edwards Alfa 75 approaching Siberia yesterday at Phillip Island...Taken with Ray P's new GoPro Video Hero camera. Sorry I messed up the sound and had to put music in its place, but you will get the idea..

Jim, I should add, for the sake of completeness, that the lovely blue 105 in the video was mine.
The official photographer spoke to me - he'll have all of his photos uploaded in the next couple of days and I'll post links here.

That taxi of yours has some stick Jim - very nice.
Did the 159 actually run some events? I couldn't see it listed on any Natsoft results.
What is the procedure to post photos ? What size can they be ?
In your reply hit "Additional Options...".
"Allowed file types: doc, gif, jpg, mpg, pdf, png, txt, xls
Maximum attachment size allowed: 256 KB, per post: 4"
If you have lots of photos that you want to share, I suggest you upload them to picasa (http://picasaweb.google.com/) and link to the album from here. If you use the picasa image gallery software (http://picasa.google.com) it'll upload your photos for you.
Also there's a sticky topic on this: http://www.alfaclubvic.org.au/forum/index.php?topic=55.0 - it might be able to help you.
cheers,
Evan.
I was car no. 100 as we passed the counter, so there's another 60 or so cars behind me here. It was quite a sight, but not much fun in a track car with no aircon....

I'm surprised that there weren't any cookoffs with that many alfas all idling on the dummy grid :P Thank god for my hot wired thermo fan swicth ;D ;D
good stuff so far. My cousin has all the photos and vids on his camera so as soon as I get them, i'll post away.
compliments to music selection Jim, nothing like a bit of Air.

Off the end of the speedo at Alfa island!

Great stuff Neil. Thanks.
And now some pics
I love the TZ-1 (Neil's photo).
data pic. Here is a data snapshot from Alfa Island that compares Sheldons 90 to my 155 - also I have added a lap from "my" giulietta, now owned by Brent hampstead - this lap was done back in Dec of 2005. You can see that the guilietta had much more grip than the 155 does, but that the 155 is (a lot) faster.... And that Sheldon is faster through turn one regardless...

That's really cool information Jim but really - only 1:52? Come on man!! I mean, a 2.5 GTV6 running Dunlop R's, 30mm bars etc can do sub 2 minutes and the 911 does at least 1:55 on standard street tyres, probably a couple of seconds less when pushed.
You're a good 6 seconds faster than than the 911 on the Winton short track as well so are you running out of revs at the island in the 155?
Alister
Well, its true, as you can see from the video there are a number of places where the car can go faster - the data shows that it could do in the 40's easily enough at the present, however i did actually do a 1:51! last time I was at PI with this car, it was only capable of 2:00.57 - the fact that it is so much faster has me over running the corners. The cars clutch is letting go in 4th and 5th at high boost which is, both disconcerting and forcing me to turn the boost down. Its acceleration through the kinks after southern loop and Siberia is a tad disconcerting, but I agree with your thinking that the car can go faster :) - And it will!
Definitely - look forward to seeing that!
I have to admit all this activity is getting me keen to have a track car again.
not sure if this photobucket thinga-me-bob worked or not
ahhh the technology

hi sheldo where is ur rear wing gone
I have no idea what you're talking about.
The Club would like to compile a good video record of last weekend to be able to share with other States who were unable to attend.
Please post your videos soon so we can put them together.
Thanks,

Very good incar footage. Thanks, very interesting. Data also very interesting.
So fast at this early stage, in a relatively standard car, relatively heavy.
congrats on 1:51
sheldon was there not a pic in a previous thread that showed the body roll of ur 90 without a wing and one with the wing. the wing is the small lip one i think the monza just like the one that you bid on in nsw that i was going to bring back for you
Truly inspirational stuff gents, wish I could have been there but your pics and vids are surely the next best thing.

Yes I have the Zender wing on my car. Have done for over a year. PM me if you need any more information, no need for it to be in a thread featuring pictures of the weekend.
A couple of pics of the 159
I didn't take any photos, but I had my video camera and took a bit of footage of nothing in particular. The camerawork is shaky, but the little handicam picks up the nice audio pretty well. Here's a bit of a montage:

Apologies it gets a bit self-centred at the end...
Great work as usual Evan
In car footage from Alfa Island on the weekend. This is first qualifying Saturday morning.

Nice centenary badge Frank!! That extra weight must slow you down a bit though?
Frank, that is such a great video - we need the full feature length version!
jim ..
nice one Frank ;D ;D ;D
Frank you drive like there is a gun to your head and a knife ready to cut your nuts. Inspirational.
I'd like a translation of what you had to say when Michael P came back past you at Honda? Lovely driving Frank - your drive over Lukey Heights makes me clench...
Cheers Sheldon. Very happy to get it before the meeting. On one hand it looks good, on the other, how much time did it cost me? I'd like to go with 0.31 seconds. It is heavy! I like it. Sometimes you just have to compromise.
Thanks Jim. I'm getting there.
Nice one M.P
Maybe the car is stolen, or borrowed, Oh yeah, its my brothers. Ha Ha.
Evan Translation. I was extenting an invitation into Siberia, as I was having trouble there all day, simple.
Dont get me wrong, that was "Off the scale" for fun, I'd be happy doing that all day, maybe the car wouldnt.
Frank
Hi guys, It dawned on me after my previous (first ever) post that I hadn't introduced myself on the forum properly. I'm Andrew Aggenbach and not many of you would know me yet as 'Aggo'. I've been a club member for almost 10 years but have not been terribly active until fairly recently.
I'm the genius (read 'moron') with the Nissan SR20 Turbo in the silver Alfetta GTV. I've owened the car now for the last 6 years (I had 2 33's before this) but have had lot of problems getting it 'settled' in the car and reliable. I also became a father of two kids during this time as well!
Apart from a niggly exhaust rattle (yes the same one that tore the turbo off the exhaust manifold at last year's 6 hour!) the car is just about sorted.
The only nut that needs tightening now is the one behind the wheel! Here is some of my footage from inside the car last weekend.

What an awesome and historic event. Thanks to Phil and Neil for allowing me to enter even though the car is not all Alfa. We are truly blessed in Victoria to have access to such a world class track for club level motorsport.
PS. My YouTube handle; SiRGTV is tongue in cheek for SR powered GTV not that I am deserving of a title from the Knights of the Round Table!
Cheers, Aggo
Great vids Andrew, would have been even better if that last video had gone on long enough to show you passing Musco down the main straight!!
Thanks Jim, The straight would have been the only place I could get past Frank!
Cheers, Andrew
Does anyone know who the "offical photographer" for the event was. Usually sdpics.com.au does some of our club sprint days but i didn't see them around.
I'm not sure who arranged it, but I was in touch with the chap on the weekend. He's emailed me to say the photos will be available early next week, published on Flickr. I'll post links then.
Unfortunately he's also an official photographer for the historics this weekend so he's a little bit busy it's taking a little longer than he'd hoped.
Good stuff Andrew. I like your line through southern loop, been there myself a couple of times.
And yes an awesome event, never seen so many fantastic Alfa Romeo cars in one place before. Also couldnt think of a better place at Phillip Island. (Unless raining)
As for Jim bloody Nielsen, I didn't see any green Alfa Sprints on your video, excuses??? I saw you in marshalling, always first one out, but still didn't catch me! Thats just not Jim.

I dunno about you, but my lockup was definitely all brake pedal inspired - yours probably came from that Nissan engine, saw a bit of sideways action and though it must be a drift competition ;D. Forgot how much smoke came out though, no wonder I had a bit of a vibration for the rest of the weekend!
I'll have to put up the segment from my camera of you going off at southern loop - I didn't actually realise you were still in the grass when I went past until I watched your video. Looked back through my footage, and you can see a big roostertail as I come round turn 1. And even frame by frame, I can't find your car in the dust cloud as I go round Southern loop.
Thanks Ben, if only I'd put the Nissan gearbox in the car as well I'd be out drifting now down Dandenong Rd. in Windsor after completing a few 'Chapel Laps' safe in the knowledge that my 15 in subwoofer would provide all the downforce I need over the rear wheels, but alas I have too much mechanical sympathy for my Alfa transaxle to go drifting (in dry weather). It'll be good to see your footage of my off at the Southern Loop.
Frank, I checked the rest of my footage and whilst I've got plenty of go in a straight line you were that far ahead of me it would have pointless to try and keep up with you through turn 1.
Evan, excellent video of the weekend. Like the P3, IGNIS GTV6, SZ and so on, going flat chat down the main straight. Quite like the ending, go the SUD!, and the chequered flag to finish it off.
I also walked around with my camera, but I need lesson, and very shaky. I'll stick to incar for now.
Here is my first run on Sunday. Nice and tidy.

Hi All,
Many thanks from the SA contingent to all concerned for all the hard work put in to make this happen.
We all had a blast, here is a little of my incar.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJ3ZlkOZGj0
hi all wish i was there has someone got pics of the sz
Hi guys down here from Tassie. So good to see all the photos and video clips etc from the Alfa Island celebrations. Would have loved to have been there but a lack of funds prevailed in not being able to do so. So this is the next best thing. Hope to see more pics etc as the celebrations continue over March.
One small technical and undoubtedly dumb question for Frank etc. Why do you guys have a red light that comes on every now and again. It has me confused as to the purpose of it ? Dave
David
It's just Frank, the red light indicates when his brain is engaged or not, but mostly not.
Neil
PS David, seriously, it is his brake lights.

Frank has a red light hooked up to his brakes, so that when he watches later he can see how late he was braking (if at all!) I don't know why it keeps coming on though ;D
Thanks Neil ;D and Jekyll for the responses. I had wondered but couldn't figure it out, hence my dumb question. I kind of thought that perhaps it was a light to indicate the need to change gear ?? but that seemed kind of daft to me, but I have to admit I hadn't thought of it being an internal indicator for late braking. Good to learn something new.
Definitely some really nice driving there by Frank, in the Sud sprint. I suspect it isn't quite standard anymore, heh ;D ;D.
It's Frank that "isn't standard"....
YES I have seen this method when training chips for the space program ;D
Red light comes on
Chimp hits button
Chimp gets a peanut ;D
John
Yes John, you would know, want another peanut? :D
Seriously, the light is so I cant lie to myself as to where I hit the brake, so I can watch the videos afterwards and see how consisitent my braking actually is. At P.I, I try to hit the brake at Honda (U turn After turn 2) at 100m, thought video shows how inconsistent that point is. 50 m either way? Too much brake all weekend!
Car is not standard, heaps of comp, a massive camshaft, on a diet, and a chimp driving.
Aggo, Nice driving.
Neil your not quite correct, Brains, Racecar drivers have no brains, its a prerequisite of speed.
Cheers
Hey folks,
Has anyone stumbled across more pics from the weekend?
Cheers,
Marco.
Fran-Ces-Co
Thats some fantastic driving mate unbelievable, no mucking around 'ere the green machine flies with you a 'pazzo' at the wheel - Great stuff
Like the brake light idea could this mean you could go faster after some post race braking analysis? - scary, did you pinch the monster tacho da shift light from da Monaro mayyte? :)
Your hired as my track day instructer

Um... Frank... I think you forgot to brake for turn 1.
I need to grow some nuts *sigh*.
Thankyou for enlightening me :)
Did anyone get a picture of #152?,I have not found any yet on here.
Cheers
Andrew
Yes Andrew I got some video of you and many others including a section just before and after you lost part of the exhaust !!
I will try and post them as soon as I can master my poxy Panasonic wako file types that it saves them as and totally incompatible with anything on the planet so far. I need to trim out stuff like close ups of my left foot, nose hairs of some unknown passer by and less important stuff like that there first..
Thanks Mikey,
I usually convert them to AVI files and use AVI trimmer to get the bits I want but I am sure yours is better
Cheers
Andrew
Andrew, I believe that you are in this short video that I took - I didn't get any pics of my car (#12..... hint hint) either..

Just another few photos from Alfa Island, Alfesta, Historics and the Grand Prix.

Brett :)
Finally mastered my video program to put out my first video so don't be too critical..
Lots of people left out unfortunately due to the 10 minute You Tube time constraints. I hope you see yourself in it.
Regarding the sound. Some traffic noise does not relate to the image that you see as the audio is picked up from a close car but the image is telephoto and recording something else ! For example the sound of Jim's car is heard watching a completely different car and likewise the awesome exahaust note from Seb Mauceri's brilliant 116 GTV but you'll get the idea I am sure.
And yes Andrew, you you're in there too.. :)
Enjoy.
