Hi
Please be gentle first time alfa owner and new forum member.
I just purchased a 2009 159 ti jts 2.2 72klm
I have a few questions if someone kindly could answer.
Firstly when I start the car and drive off the back doors automatically lock but not the front?
2 ,the window lock on the driver's door only locks the rear windows but not the front.
3, the rear view mirror has an auto button I guess for darkening the mirror but have not noticed anything different at day or night?
Also what is the square black box behind the mirror on the left?
4, there is a dome on the dash in the middle close to the windscreen, what is it for?
5,the original stereo had been replaced with an Alpine CDE -W265EBT bluetooth equipped but can't get the steering wheel controls to work and blue and me which I guess is alfas own bluetooth showes up on my phone but can't connect I guess this is because the original stereo has been changed?
6,in the boot there is a red velcro strap just hanging what was meant to be there? And also on some google searches in the boot on the left side near the quarter panel there seems also to be a tool bag?
And finally I only have 1 reverse light that comes on is there meant to be 2?
Sorry if I have asked too many questions
Kind regards
Maria
Hi Maria
Welcome aboard and congratulations on your purchase of the 159. If you didn't receive the owners manual on purchase, then you can get access to soft copy at the following link. With regards to stereo, I would suggest steering wheel control adaptor not fitted, whilst the other aftermarket accessories then recommend that you search the net (if booklets not supplied). The velcro strap item 6 would have been used to secure pouch for oil container and last point normally 1 reverse light fitted to car.

Hi Maria,
Welcome aboard to ownership of one of the most beautifully designed cars of the past 20 years!
Square black box to the left of the mirror houses the rain sensor for the wipers. Regularly treat / clean this area on the outside of the screen with Rainex - dramatically improves the performance of the sensor.
Dome on the dash near the base of the screen houses the vehicle internal temperature sensor.
Hi
Thank you Bonnie and Colin for the very quick and helpful replies .
I noticed also that the oil level indicator on the middle of the dash on Sunday morning read full bars then after driving for a few hours when I got home and turn the car off and straight away re inserted the key it read 2 bars lower? Surely can't have used that much oil. I know the car prior to purchase as the owner had bought the car brand new and really took care and hardly drove it in the 11 years of owneship
Kind regards Maria
Hi Maria,
Welcome to the World of Alfa.
NEVER rely on the dash bar graph!
Always check the oil using the dipstick, in the morning when engine is cold is best.
Hi Maria
To get a consistent reading, I would have the oil level reading when engine is cold, ie; prior to starting - only turn key to the ON position. This way the oil has settled and drained within the oil galleries inside the engine.
Ok, I'll try this one more time -

NEVER rely on the dash bar graph! (In the 159 they are inaccurate and have a tendency to fail!)
Always check the oil using the dipstick, in the morning when engine is cold is best.
Apologies. Bazz is absolutely correct.
Hi guys
Thank you very much for clarifying the oil level situation.
Is there somewhere online that I can see part numbers as I need a few clips and it's missing a cigarette lighter .
Also I read online owners manual that bonno kindly shared and it's conflicting with some of the answers I got from you guys.
1 it states that that the black box to the left of the mirror is in fact a window mister sensor and not a wiper sensor , the rain / wiper sensor is at the back of the mirror right in the middle.
Kind regards Maria
Also is there a way to open the boot from the inside of the car instead of using the remote like on the dash somewhere?
Kind regards Maria
Hi Maria
Boot Release
With the key in, ignition on, engine not running/vehicle stationary.
Scroll through the menu using buttons on the headlight/indicator stalk. The setting is 'Indep. Boot'
On = ONLY the key can be used to unlock.
Off = Roof console & key can be used to unlock
Also your remote key to start the engine also has remote boot release button but is only useful when your out of car and key in hand.

Thank you again bonno very helpful
I'm in Sydney, is there any place that sells new alfa parts.
Kind regards Maria
Try the following -
Arese Spares (Sydney) 0405 434 663
Italian Automotive Spares (Melb) 03 9036 1606
They both do fast mail service delivery.
Further to my earlier post on boot release, find attached screenshot of Page 102 of Owners Manual.
Hi
The car isn't here at the moment but I don't think I have that button in the middle of the roof light
If I recall correctly it's just a dummy button
Aside from the FOB, you most likely only have the Push-Badge boot release along with emergency release cord under the rear passenger side seat. Its all i have ! 2009 Ti model also.
Hi
Thank you for your help
When you say push badge release,do you mean the the alfa rear badge ?
That's the one. You'll know if its equipped with push button as the badge will have a "spring" to it. If it does have a spring to it and still not opening follow the instructions detailed in this thread regarding Independant boot release and set to on. Once enabled, lock the car with FOB, then unlock immediately with FOB again. You should now be able to push the badge to open boot.
My 2.2 had the internal boot release button; my Ti has the badge-push. You get one or the other.
I have two cigarette lighters somewhere, and two ashtrays, but no idea where I put them. First things I remove. If you're not a smoker Maria (a practice forbidden in all my cars), just get yourself a USB charger instead. Much more useful and better for everyone.
You might want to look at this thread:

159s have lots of features not revealed in the owners manual, but what you get depends upon the year.
Hi
Thank you so much for your help guys.
specimenX it worked perfectly with the badge set up
Thank you so much.
kaleuclint thank you for the link and for explaining the 2 different cars you have with the difference in boot release and with the USB charger idea.
Another 2 questions.
On the roof light panel, I have a light that flashes when I insert the key in with a backwards facing person .it turns off after a few seconds.is that a warning light for child restraint? Trying to upload pics but saying files to large.
And on the right side of the steering wheel the panel with the dial for lifting and lowering the headlights, there is a km button what's that for? also a P button that does nothing when I press it ?
Then 2 buttons far right of the panel with headlight symbol. The top one is fog light that works but the bottom does nothing.
Kind regards Maria
Did you get an owners manual with the car?
All that information is contained within.
If you don't, an owners manual can be downloaded from here -

Hi
Sorry that I'm asking alot of questions
as I didn't get the owners manual but the original owner had it but can't remember where he put it,
Thanks for the link.
The car is a TI with lowered suspension, 19 inch wheels , electric seats, electric folding and alloy
mirrors, side skirts ,brembo brakes but my registration papers doesn't say Ti on it , my stupid insurance company won't insure it as a TI.
is this a normal thing not to say Ti on the registration papers?
What else does a ti have from a non ti model.
It's a 2.2 jts 2009.
When I signed up to elum, for the owners manual and put in my VIN number it came up as a
159 2.2 jts elegante lusso Ti
Kind regards Maria
Again sorry for all the questions
Hi Maria
There were three levels of trim options available for the 159 iaw Wikipedia and from your description yours is theTurismo Internazionale (TI) fitted with the 2.2 JTS. The insurance company could be getting confused with the later more powerful unit having the 1750 Turbo engine (refer to Wiki link for all the models).

Hi bonno
Makes sense
Thank you so much for your help Again
Regards Maria
Hi guys
Ok so was washing the car and noticed the on the rear wheel arches that it might be missing the inner guards
On both sides , the reason I say this because they felt like hard carpet?
Are they meant to be plastic?
I'm starting to think that what I'm seeing and feeling is the underside of the boot liner.
Geez I hope not
Kind regards Maria
No, what you are feeling are the correct inner guard linings. The carpet like materiel is used because of its road noise sound deadening properties.
Hi
Oh ok thank you for explaining.
The front inner guards are definitely plastic.
Kind regards
And again I'm sorry to bother everyone.
Hi all
Another question
Jacking the car, in the manual it says if you have side skirts to remove a piece of plastic to slide the jack in
Can not see where it is
Also does the 2009 ti come out with puddle lights under the door? Car is not here at the moment so can't check
I guess I have asked too many questions.
I had a 159Ti 3.2 Q4 for a number of years. Never used the jack in the boot - cant even remember what it looked like! However I do seem to recall removable plugs in the side skirts.
My 159 did feature puddle lights at the base of the door.
Hi Colin
Thank you for your help
Hi
I'm missing some tools from the spare wheel tool storage.
Would anyone know or have the screw down bolt in the center and the screw driver?
Also there is a empty slot that I have no idea what goes there it kind of looks like for a spare wheel nut?
I tried uploading pics but won't allow
Here you go the the ones circled in red
Pieces I would like to get
Screw driver
Screw down bolt to fasten down
Piece I don't know is the one that might be for a wheel nut?
Kind regards Maria
Hi all
Would anyone know what this is circled in red
Regards
Maria
Hi
Also could someone with a TI sedan please take a picture of their spare wheel compartment.
I have a 19 inch spare with only the foam tool holder .
I noticed on some web pics that there is also an outlet foam attachment. Is mine missing because of the 19 inch spare wheel?
Regards Maria
Hi
The 1 circled in red
Funny story: that looks like my foot! ;) ;D
Yes, that's my spare from a 159 Ti. I have that foam thing (same as what you see pictured, but with all the bits included) - it sits on top of the spare wheel in my 159 Ti. I have 19" wheels too, and so is the spare wheel.
One of those missing things you circled is a pointy screwdriver type thing. Not sure yet what it's used for, however.
My inside wheel arches also have that carpety feel. As others have said, it helps with road noise. 8) Now I have mud-flaps all around, so they stay much cleaner. Highly recommend keeping an eye out (at least for the front).
Puddle lights were stock standard on pretty much any 159, I believe.
If you're missing puddle lights, let me know. I have a spare set and can post them to you.
I also am a relatively new owner of a 159 Ti 2.2 JTS just like yours. How are you finding it? I'm finding that the driver's seat is a really nice place to be, and look forward to my regular 75km+ commutes to and from work!

I have 19" wheels too, and so is the spare wheel.
You're saying you have a Ti 19" alloy as the spare?
The part labelled "1" attaches to the underside body of the car, 4 in total. These are your lifting points for the factory scissor jack. Most aftermarket scissor jacks should also fit.
