Title: 159 Q4 V6 Ti Gearbox
Post by: GTR27 on June 30, 2017, 04:43:14 PM
Oil for my gearbox/diff has finally come in and was wondering if someone has a parts / exploded view of the gearbox for the drain and fill points?

Also same thing for the rear diff.

I have seen the gearbox drain on the bottom when doing half the service last week, so i'm comfortable with that, but if anyone could help me out with a picture or parts view that'd be awesome!

To get easier access to the front transaxle filler plug requires removal of the battery.  And also the battery cradle as I remember.  The filler plug can then be attacked  - however youll probably need a 300mm or longer 1/2" extension to reach down to the filler plug.
I found the 75w85 oil did help a lot but doesn't cure the stiff shifting when cold.

Hi GTR27
You could also try the removal of plug from underside of vehicle (suitable access) in lieu of removal of battery and tray and use a transfer pump to fill the gearbox oil.

I've found the plugs - will def require removal of battery tray and battery, plus crawling under the thing.

Does the drain plug have a crush washer? Figure if I can get a generic one I'll put a fresh one on for reinstall. The drain and fill plugs look in ok condition.

Mine had a copper washer.  I re-used after annealing.
