I recently purchased this 1988 3litre from sydney..........my son and I drove it back to melbourne and during
the drive realised that a lot of work had to be done.
the car was essentially all there and only had very minor rust (this was found when we stripped and removed the engine.)The rust is in a common place on most 75's in the valance panel where the fresh air intake is.
I stripped back all the sealer and lee from EXTREME BODY REPAIRS cleaned and repaired the surface rust, luckily it was only surface
rust, left much longer and it would have been a very difficult job to repair.
As you can see in the photos I have removed all the ancillaries off the engine and generally cleaned the block.
I have put a kit in the detensioner (yes I am leaving it oil fed) and will put on a new waterpump.
I have also removed all the injectors and will have them cleaned and put the original 7.5mm (as apposed to the 5/16th) fuel hose so it will look the
same as factory (I hate those aftermarket fuel hose clamps!!!!!!!!!!!!)
The rear main seal was replaced while the engine was out
I have removed the airconditioner
engine out and ready to fix a few things
I have ordered nolothane intake runners from highperfomance as the original ones are well worn
ordered a new oil sender and oil warning sensor (these generally leak after a few years and can be misdiagnosed as a leaky rear main)

second pic shows the rack...........I am considering making this a manual rack similar to greg gordons (highperformance) simply loop the supply and return lines and pack the rack with grease.

The body will be cut back and polished.............hopefully it will come up ok.

UPDATE 75
We removed and renewed headlining and fixed the sunroof.
ordered new engine pipes, tie rod ends, new engine mounts
changed the cambelt and bought new rear muffler
pic shows my gtv..............a lot easier to do a cambelt in the 75

I've only ever seen another 75 with those cracks in the front chassis. Good work anyhow.
This might be the perfect opportunity to dress up the motor. Give the aluminium a good clean (high pressure water) and maybe get some bolts plated. It will really bring some life back to the engine bay

The plating looks great! My PS 'cooling' pipes have surface corrosion; can't do the same as you without draining the messy PS fluid, so I'll just have to clean and paint mine instead.
A nice clean engine you have! What coating is on the manifolds?

The engine has been started with static timing, will have to put a timing light to adjust timing and idle.
proportioning valve (brand new) faulty so will have to replace.
fan does not cut in.............have to check wiring .
some problems with the alfa control unit.................need to check earths

If the Dino is undergoing paintwork, why aren't the dashboard and the instrument cluster/steering wheel protected against paint drift and overspray?

the dino was there for some body work I would imagine the dash etc will be removed............I am not intimately involved in the work that is to be undertaken in the near future.

does anyone have a set of driving lights for the 75, also I need rear wheel arch liners .
the liners in the car at the moment are for the 2.5 litre which are a different profile on the lip.

That 75 turned out fantastic Gregory, can not get much more original looking, loved the photos, black 75 looked fantastic, i also remember that GTV with gold wheels, it was a special edition type i think, had gold wheels and a big sticker on the door from the factory that read strada in lower case gold, off memory i think strada had a certain trim level? can anyone else remember them? they were all that dark colour and were 1982 1983 model GTVs off memory? i remember seeing one in a car yard when i was young, may have been what made me fall in love with Alfa Romeo?
If anyone can rember one, or has one, or has a photo with the door sticker on it, i would love to hear or see the photo ;)

I havent completely given up on alfas though as I still drive my 2001 3 litre gtv.
the 75 is a wonderful car and if I had the space would prefer to keep it but I can only keep 3 cars under cover and out of the weather.
Sorry to think you're selling the 75 after all your hard work! But a Saab 9-3 sounds like an interesting project. I've always liked the old 900 Aero (turbo; circa 1990)) and would probably prefer one of those to the 9-3. :P
shiny I might have been a bit hasty placing the intention to sell..................it appears I may be able to keep the car at my friends factory, if this eventuates I will keep the car as it is a great example.
