Title: Phillip Island Videos....
Post by: jimnielsen on December 12, 2011, 07:58:16 PM
A collage.. First, Alan Goodall wanted to show me how his drifting technique had improved, then Mick Aarons drops in to say Hi. After that, Mick decides to show me how drifting is really done. Finally, I round things out with my fastest lap of the day.  Oh - and yes that was Ray Pignataro in the Sud...yes - I will fix the camera mounting ...

Jim did you afix the camera with wobble tape. Mick man watching you is grouse dont ever want to be a passenger with you though i would be very very scared. this is a big statement but you might be as crazy as Frank.

Jim, another very entertainig video, especially when Mick kept popping into view and going sideways around MG. Also the speed coming out of Siberia to pass Mick BEFORE the kink is freaky!

Ray, I believe Lap times are inversely proportional to sanity, so...yeah Micks going pretty quick these days.  ;D

Good stuff.

Been trying to upload some footage of the first session, but youtube is being recalcitrant.

Great stuff.  Nicely done Chode, that's the way to go over Lukey Heights, reminds me of Rossi.

Just a couple of laps with Damon specifically chasing Colin.  Nothing exciting.  Just difference in straight line speed or our lack of.

But ended up with Damon's best laptime and for the car.

Hmm - youtube still being problematic. This seems to have colour mapping issues played back through my browser. Watchable in parts - you can see me chasing Joe Falcone's GTV.

You're a brave man taking those wide lines over Lukey's Mick.  Not much room for error out there......

That's another great video, Mick - great to see how it all looked from your seat - it sure was a lot of fun, shame i couldn't actually keep it on the black stuff a little more! I was on my fastest lap when I spun at Honda (again..) - I was hoping to clear out before you could see it - no such luck. Lets do it all again!!

Mick, good to see you keeping Jim honest. Nice work over Lukey!, I'd have to change my undies after that!

Not as exciting as Mick's footage, but was still a good run.

Very exciting boys!

Mick are you on slicks or radials? I love the sound of that 3 litre.

Cheers,

Brent

Wow.. I must have a go at this one day. Great stuff, I had my foot mashed into carpet watching that

The 105 in the lead (end) appears to be super quick.. pulling away most every time
Why/how does it's 4cyl (assumption) leap ahead faster than the six (Shirley more torque etc?)
Appreciate this may be a gumby by question, but I'm just surprised..
And can I build my TS the same way :)

Maybe I should be put in 2 stroke class.

Wow - my piece of crap actually sounds alright from outside!  Didn't think it was even audible from another car...

Ben Thompson - 1:55.3176
Mick Aarons - 1:55.4772

.... that's gotta hurt, Mick? - Great video Ben - loved the bit where you go past Seby....And the spin at Honda made me feel better as I did it there twice last weekend..

Yep - turns out when you grab 4th instead of 2nd the car decides to plow straight ahead for some strange reason.  Who knew!

And I loved the bit where I passed Seby too.  Even better was when I saw him at the timing tower later, and he was still trying to work out how he'd been passed by a '4 cylinder' GTV  :P!

You should have vision of that last run between you, me and the Jacobs 75?

Something to amuse you with.

Argh. Youtube is still corrupting my uploads. Recompiled ffmpeg and all its libraries, tried 3 different codecs, in combination with 3 different containers, wasted about 800mb of upload bandwidth, and no change. I give up.

This clip has the problem, but isn't too bad - a quick split screen comparison showing a lap from July and a lap from Sunday. The idea was to show the difference the rear suspension tweaks have made. Corner exit speeds are generally much better, even though my lines are still pretty cr*p. Also confirms my feeling on the day that for some reason top-end acceleration is down. Hope I haven't got an incipient engine issue....

Sunday lap is on top, July below.

So that's how you ended up over there...  I was wondering (between laughter) as I went past what you'd been doing - I always seem to come past just when you're in some weird spot making your way back on the track (sometimes even in reverse!).

Stephen: great video - looks really fast, I had my foot on the pedal watching..
Neil: good grief...you are scaring me.
Ray: "if only i had another 200 horsepower." - You can purchase said horsepower at the shops....

Uploaded this one for a friend to watch, thought I may as well throw it in here since quite a few forum members show up in the first half.  Last 3 laps are 1:55, 1:55, 1:56 (too much right foot out of Siberia).
