Hey

I am keen on purchasing a super sexy 156 in the next couple of months.
I was wondering how many km's you 156 drivers get per tank.
This can be for both the 2.0L and the 2.5L V6 models

Much appreciated

My manual JTS 2002 sedan will do 827 kilometres on a tank, that is a 63 litre tank, traffic, suburban and freeway, i know cause i filled it up and drove till i run out of petrol, city driving and freeway driving is within 20% of each other, city driving uses more fuel, but they use very little idling in traffic, [as do most modern cars], Colin.

wow that's a lot of kms!
Just found out from a guy that has a 156 (2.5L V6 02 model)-
He said he gets about 400 to a tank (urban driving) which is mainly what I"d be doing.

Just contemplating whether getting the 2L or the 2.5L

Decisions decisions...

Thanks for the reply

I do drive my JTS like i am an old women, just too many cameras around now to enjoy it, not a lot of difference between suburban and country, was wrapped in suburban consumption, when i went on a trip, i was slightly dissapointed that the country didn't make a lot of difference, my consumption hardly varies  from week to week, use the good Vortex 98 fuel, more to go wrong on a JTS, has 4 Lambda sensors and 2 catalatic convertors, but is good torquey motor and high gearing, so you don't need to rev it, Colin.

Colin's result is massively better than I ever achieved in either of my 156 Twin Sparks, and my 2.5 V6 was worse again. My 3.2 GTA is better than the 2.5, I guess due to the added torque meaning there's less need for big revs to make easy progress. Best result from my 2.5 was 7.7l/100km on purely highway driving but 12-14l/100km was more typical when used predominantly around town (the first tank was nearly 18l/100km, so I calmed down after that  :o). The GTA averages maybe 10-12l/100km in varied running, can't recall what the Twin Sparks gave.

But unless economy is of utmost importance to you I wouldn't use this as the sole yardstick for choosing between a 4 or a 6. The 4 is a good engine, the 6 is a great one. If I was in the market, nine time out of ten I'd chose it over the 4 without thinking; on the tenth, I'd fleetingly think about fuel economy ... and then get the 6 anyway.

It all depends how you drive it and whats important to you.

I bought the 6 and didnt even consider the 4's, its a great cruiser but has the power if desired.

You're welcome to come take him for a test drive.....

Cheers

If you drive like an old women, then you will get good fuel economy......, oh and speed cameras everywhere, my GPS tells me there are 14 speed cameras between my home and work, fuel economy is not a big deal for me, owning an Alfa, it is the driving experience, if i was concerened about fuel usage, i wouldn't drive the 33 so much, as its twin carb 1.5 uses 25% more fuel than the 2.0 JTS, just enjoy the 156 driving experience, leave fuel consumption up to Toyota drivers, as it justifies having such a boring car, Colin.

My V6 didn't have the best of economy. but I did lots of city driving primarily in rush hour. Also mine had a non standard exhaust (Remus exhaust and K&N air intake), plus it was lowered too much so the camber was out completely which would have caused more drag on the wheels. At the time I think my brother in law's V8 Commodore had better economy....  ???  :-\

Kind of why I haven't gone for another one, but then as others have said in this thread - probably shouldn't worry too much about economy.....
