According to the rumor file, the Swedish Valiant will be making its debut in V-8 Supercars in 2014, the Swedish Marque once owned by Ford is now owned by the Chinese car company Geely.
Lack of V-8 engine for Volvo doesn't seem to be a problem, they use smaller capacity engines that are turbocharged, the 5 cylinder is an absolute ripper, its the one they share with the sporty Ford Focus.
Volvo used to make a 4.4 litre V-8 that they had years ago, there is some talk of them using that, taken out to 5 litres or they could use a generic V-8 supplied by V-8 Supercars that was going to originally supply the Commodore and Falcon teams in the form of a 'crate' motor, with 'Volvo' painted on the rocker covers.
Volvo were Touring Car Champions in 1986, with driver Kiwi Robbie Francevic in a turbocharged 242T 2 door Volvo, that was in the halycecon days of Group A in Australia, the team was owned by New Zealander Marc Petch and Team Manager was John Shepheard of Holden Dealer Team Fame.
And announcement is expected on Monday 17th June.
Team to run Volvo is tipped to be Garry Rogers Fujitsu/Valvoline team.

Yes that is very impressive performance indeed. Claims of environmentally clean are only half true because the energy put into the batteries can come from sources that generate emissions of one kind or another unless they are recharged from peimar solar or some such.

I can see it now. The new Falcon with a solar panel wing at the back..what, a bridge too far? darn !

Electric car fuel by solar technology has to be our future.. It is clean, cheap and safe way of generating power.

Same as usual at the Clipsal 500 in South Australia, for race 1 and 2 the Red Bull pair of Craig Lowndes and Jamie Whincup on pole for the 2 races,....but to mix things up the Valvoline Volvo makes its debut in 2nd position, go the mighty Swedish Valiant!, the races will be held in the evening in the fading light, which be great for television, but next year, its on Foxtel pay TV, live with races on free to air replayed later on, .....being replayed later on has shades of channel 7 in the 80's and 90's, until channel 10 rescued it and put it on live after 1997, it then went gangbusters, interesting to see if the Touring Car fans will put up with it on pay TV, Colin.
