Hi
I have a temp warning light coming on even though the thermostat appears to be opening. It could be a faulty sender I guess, but I don't want to assume anything. If I decide to replace the thermostat is it a simple drop in replacement like the 105s? Has anyone had this problem? I'd appreciate some advice from more experienced 116ers. Cheers

Is the light always on? even when engine is cold? If so, pull the wire off the sender and the light should go out. If it doesn't then you have a wiring short(either in the engine bay or under the dash). If the light goes out, then switch is faulty, there usually pretty good, but like all things, can die after many a year.

Hi there,
What does the Temp gauge show when the light comes on?,it will help to figure out what is going on if you can establish what the Temperature is actually doing. If you want to work out exactly what Temp your thermostat is opening at heat it a saucepan of water with a Thermometer in it to find out.It could also be your radiator needs cleaning or your water pump is not working correctly amongst other things like retarded timing and faulty head gaskets, if it is actually overheating.  I hope it is nothing serious like this though.

Thanks to all for suggestions. The problem appeared to be intermittent - the sort that goes away when you take the car to a mechanic! We replaced the fan switch and the water temp sender. Problem solved. Now, all I have to do is to get the car (with spare transmission, head & other bits) from S.A. to Victoria. It should be here later this month then I can work on the suspension upgrade.
Cheers
