So far on Speedcafe, 250 comments on the Formula 1 going to Fuxtell, most of them negative, apart from the ones who have Fuxtell and don't mind being bent over a table by an American.
When the V-8 Supercar deal to channel 10 was announced CEO James Wobbleton said it was a great deal for V-8 Supercars, then the truth came out about the 6 races being free to air and the rest on pay TV!.
How can Formula 1 and V-8 Supercars bring in new fans, if it is on pay TV, old bastards like me aint going to be around forever.....but looking forward to not being tired on Mondays at work, Colin.

Ratings came out for the V-8's on Fuxtell, during the Albert Park event there were about 100,000 watching on pay tv, would be interesting to see how many were watching on channel 10 free to air, i think from memory at the Clipsal 500, there were 4 times as many watching on free to air channel 10 than Fuxtell.
I would think that the Formula 1 will be the same.
'Highlights' package on free to air channel 1 sometime next Monday goes for about an hour at the Malaysian Grand Prix, Colin.

Massive ratings drop for Formula 1 on pay TV, 2015 Malaysian Grand Prix, 50,000 views on pay tv, [fuxtell], in 2014 on free to air channel 10 had 350,000 viewers, that is a 85% drop in live to air ratings, no figures yet for the delayed 'highlights' package the day after on channel 10, Colin.

Col, I don't really care about the ratings, and I thought the Foxtel coverage was great. Different to the Melbourne GP, as the F1 wasn't also being shown on channel 10 there was no Ad's at all! (just like being in the UK) It was a great race. Pity about Daniel's result. Oh, the other fortunate thing was that the Kiwi's were all out in the World Cup before the race started. Nevertheless I still set up two telly's in the lounge room with one on the cricket and one with the F1.  Potsie.

According to 'In Pit Lane' the ratings have come out for the V-8 Touring Cars, for the Tasmanian Round at Symonds Plain, 60,000 watched on Fuxtell, last year 390,000 watched on channel 7 free to air.
In one year they have lost 330,000 viewers, has to be a major concern for sponsors, as to how quick they can withdraw from this series.
Expect a lot of white cars next year when sponsorships end.
If it wasn't for good TV  programs such as 'In Pit Lane', then you wouldn't hear these figures, certainly the V-8 Supercar Organisers are not going to tell you.
'In Pit Lane' is on Community Television channel 44 on Wednesday night at 9-30 in Melbourne, for other states, check your guides, Colin.

It's been a long time coming in this country, but at last were getting the coverage that F1 deserves, think that the best that's happened is F1 to fox, sky uk does an excellent job, before during race and after plus f1 show weekly, what a crime it was to the sport channel 9 and really ten was not much better.User payer, if u are a fan of the sport u don't mind.

this is also because F 1 is scared from new  competition Formula e  bathurst formats lemans and Fuxtel is scared from the new pay system netflix
its because we love our motor racing they are trying to feed you a drug that you cant live without
or swap
If you support these pay systems you will pay and pay and pay some more
dont support it support free TV or all real news and independent opinion will bought sold and lost
I loved F1 but I wont do Fuxtel and sell my soul

I always support the sponsors of Formula 1 and V-8 Supercars, but now i will go out of my way not to support them, so that the sponsors will get the message, that 50,000 - 60,000 viewers now watching, down 85% from free to air broadcasts.
It is as bad as 25 years ago when channel 7 had the Touring cars, and put a 'highlights' package on late at night.
They have taken the short term grab for money, rather than the long term view, Colin.

For all those people who like motor racing, but refuse to get Foxtel, the Monaco Grand Prix is on television tonight, not quite live, but not a 1 hour highlights package the next day, just to remind you of Formula 1 before Murdock got his money grabbing hands on it, Colin.

In a seemingly never ending grab for money, F1 has moved to Foxtel.  We will still get 10 races preyer on FTA, but the other 10 you'll have to pay for.  One wonders how long that will last?

To me, this is another nail in the coffin that was the premier category of motorsport.  Goodbye F1, it was great while it lasted, but I won't be watching it now.  How does a sport expect to grow it's fan base when you have to pay $750 a year just to watch it on TV?  I pay less to be an AFL member and get to attend at least 20 games a year.

I don't want the remainder of the rubbish that is telecast on Foxtel, so I would be paying the whole amount to watch the ten GP that aren't on FTA.

Stuart

hear hear, foxtell is rubbish and Rupert Murdoch is evil!!! might spell the end of Melbourne having the F1 race too
it doesn't matter how big your check book is, talent is the limiting factor.

poohbah

It's obviously a pain in the arse for those without Foxtel, but their full live coverage of practice, qualifying, the paddock before and after, and race day is an improvement over the prior limited coverage on FTA, in my opinion anyway.

But what F1 really needs to improve the viewing experience is for our boy Richo to quit RBR for Ferrari so he can start embarrassing Ze German (both of them actually) and that tosser Hamilton again.

The Formula 1 has been so boring lately, that a 1 hour 'highlights' package seems a better alternative to a 2 hour coverage, Colin.

Col, what are you on about? .. I filled my fridge full of pi*s and strapped into my favourite armchair for the full 5 hours on Sunday Night (or until whatever time it was that I fell asleep). I then woke up to the Indy 500 later on. Much better than a highlights package.  Potsie.
