Hi , Im new to this page . I have a beautiful red Brera 2007 . NOT diesl .  There doesn't appear to be anything wrong with the engine but the ECU came on two years ago and the Alpha mechanics cant get rid of it. We did everything listed on the diagnostics to no avail . Wasted a couple of thousand dollars replacing solarnoids, timing belt but still the light is on. The only clues to a possible problem could be .. breaking in devise ofter activates for no reason and the engine has always run rich - blows smoke and has exhaust soot over the exhaust pipes- but has one this since new.  I love the car . Its beautiful . Doesn't seen to have anything wrong but as its 2007 I would like to sell it , but cant get a road worthy while the warning light is on. Even the mechanics don't know what to do . HELP !! anyone !!

Take it to another Alfa Romeo Service Provider, they have different levels of scanning tools, and sometimes they don't show up what is wrong.
You need to have all the trouble codes erased, as one code can trip another code, and when one code comes up, check that one first.
The GM based 4 and 6 cylinder engines have been known to stretch timing chains and this can cause the valve timing to be out of kilter with the crankshaft timing, this can cause a trouble code which will eventually cause it to go into limp mode, Colin.

2.2 or 3.2?

2.2's have a known problem with the injector wiring loom causing a fault.
