so I was fed up of a vague gearchange on my 2002 2.0 manual 147.

a trawl of the internets suggested the bushings on the linkage were to blame.

so i bought these:

followed this: http://forum.alfa156.net/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=52538&KW=gear

but I didn't take the battery out, even though I have massive hands.

A) the offending items are the black things. B) Re assembled with lots of copper grease. C) Just enough room so I didn't need to take the battery out

pretty good. Previously when going from second to third (whilst giving it some beans), it was easy to miss the change, now it goes into gear much more positively. Well worth doing.

actually, the biggest improvement is to finding reverse. Before there was always a scrunch, now it's so smooth I'm not sure it's there!

Hoorar, these are the sought of posts I like to see. A problem with a resolution. Its exactly what I was looking at doing with the daughter's 147. Mine hasn't got quite the gear selection issues, however the stick is very sloppy and I imagine it would only be a matter of time. Great post biggie ;D
