Late model FWD wheels on a 75/90

I see quite a few RWD transxle cars with later FWD wheels fitted.  Does this cause any issues.  Isn't the offset different?

Is there a difference in the 164/156 wheels compared to the later wheels?

If one were to seek out later Alfa wheels for a 75/90, what model/series wheel is the least-worst choice?

all the 16 inch late model wheels look good on the 90 but their is one style that just wont work without new studs, ( i think mostly on spiders) the 156/147/gtv are all 5 x 98 the 166 is 5 x 108 i think

The centre bore diameter (hole in the middle of the wheel that needs to fit snuggly over the hub) is slightly bigger on the 75: 58.6mm. Centre bore on 147/156/GT is 58.1mm (I think the 164 is also 58.1mm). It means, to fit 156 wheels, you'll the hole will be too tight to fit over the hub; you'll want to have them 'machined' to the right size.

My 75 has 15" 156 'pepperpot' wheels fitted by the PO. They were presumably machined. PCD is otherwise the right match (5x98mm); offset of +41mm from memory, and a 6.5" wide wheel. Are you wanting a set for 'road use' or 'track' or what? Is offset important for 'looks' or just to ensure they fit ok?

I'm thinking about them for a 90.  Looks, not track, but I don't want to upset the geometry or render the car unusable in a carpark.

I've no experience with the 90, sorry. But do you know the standard wheel width and offset? Should be easy enough to predict if another set of wheels will be suitable based upon this.

I don't know the specs of the wheels, but the originals look to be the same as those fitted to the 85-87 GTV6's (Campagnalos?).

You can also just put spacers on them Paul to overide the hub/machining issue, alot quicker and improves handling, i have quite a few sets i play around with and have not machined a set yet, 164s even come with spacers from the factory you can use, i use mine on GTV6, 90, 75 and 164 with no problems, off memory you can only go as far as the 166 after that 159 they went to the different size 5 x 108, with the new wheels Paul of course the 17 inch look the best but after trying and testing alot i found that the best all round for looks and durability are the 16 inch

Thanks everyone, puts my mind at rest.  I think I'd only be game to go to 16s.  17s with rubber bands might stress the suspension on the 90 (and my backside) a bit too much.   But there does seem to be a good choice in OEM alloy wheels out there for reasonable cost. 

So 16x6.5 with what size tyres will fit OK? 

And to show how long I've been out of the saddle, what is s decent and sympathetic tyre for a 90, used sparingly and relatively gentlyn on potholed NSW roads?

I use spacers also but they are illegal in South Australia

i would recommend 156? 17" wheels. i have them on my gtv, they fit well and dont rub, ride is ok (uprated suspension tho) only down fall is offset, when i put them on my track car i will have 25mm hubcentric spacers to make up for it.

So you are saying the 156 wheels have 1/2 inch less offset (inset?) than the transaxle wheels?  Or is some of that 1/2"-per-side spacing required just to give you clearance on the track car?

You blokes are really giving me hell. I'm getting really close to letting my GTV6 go and being with out an ALFA. Then you post gorgeous photos. Brad I reckon that's one of the best looking GTV shots I've ever seen.
