Apologies if I'm preaching to the converted, but for anyone who hasn't seen (heard) it,   I bought a copy of the DVD the other day  (after streaming a few bits of it here: http://www.streetfire.net/video/victory-by-design-alfa-romeo_2056882.htm  )

If you only put this on play, close your eyes and listen to the roar of the pre and post war Alfa racing cars - it's still worth every penny.   What a noise !!

I can't recommend it enough - I think perhaps a few important cars might have been glossed over - but it's such an aural feast I don't care !!

Not a bad job Alain DeCadenet has there ... "Hello Museo Storico...  Hi,  it's Alain again.  Yes....  the Tipo 33 Stradale today if you don't mind...   Yes,  I'll bring it back with the tank full...."

Cheers,
Scott

No need to apologise for those who are in the know about 'Victory by Design' - the classic car series made by De Cadenet for cable television in the us 10 years ago. It specialises in one off or very low volume racing cars of various marques.

There are no equals anywhere in terms of photography, sound quality or variants - each rare and completely unaffordable to the common man but each driven hard and with gusto by De Cadenet one of England's most famous and gallant privateers.

The best part is that the Alfa DVD is one of 6 in the series - Porsche was first and the historic racing coverage therein is amazing ... then Jaguar, Maserati, Ferrari, and Aston Martin. The whole series can be bought out of England for $113 AUD - worth every cent !

I have been lend the Alfa "Victory by Design' DVD and can recommend it.

I think Stuart Thompson played the DVD on a Club Night about 18 months ago.

Just listening and watching - the cars, the sounds are superb.

Several years ago when I was in Christchurch there was a P3 at a well-known auto-restoration company in the city. Before getting shipped to its new owner in Japan  :( it was sent to a local Alfa-specialist for dyno-tuning, and along with a 3 or 4 others I was invited along to witness the event.

After sitting in it for a while and contemplating the fact I was parking my backside where Nuvolari had done the same the guys put it through a few dyno runs. Oh my God. I had never - and have still never - heard anything like that supercharged straight eight. It just shrieked. We were in a chamber that was supposedly sound-proof, yet within a few minutes we had dinners from nearby restaurants wandering across the road to investigate what the incredible noise was. That evening remains an indelible memory - thanks for reminding me AikenDrum.
