Update to share my findings.

Pressure was building up. Heard the tank go clank as if expanding on Friday afternoon.

The hose from oil separator on the engine to the condensate tank was clear – which is surprising and pleasing on such a smoky motor. Pushed a bit of fencing wire 2m long in as far as I could. Looked clean and could blow through it. Guess the separator works, or at least doesn't push liquid oil towards the tank.

Turns out I had managed to put a kink in the new short hose from the drain in the condensation tank to the fuel tank when installing it , enough to seal it shut. Replaced it with a piece about 300mm long so it has gentle bends in it.

Discovered that there is a small plastic insert in the spigot in the top of the tank with a fine hole in it. This was mentioned in a factory notice about 75's I think it was – something to do with letting oil vapour through but not petrol vapour. Notice was about drilling it out slightly to stop it blocking. Mine was clean though.
