I don't know how much you know about it but CAN or CANBUS is the Alfa electrical system first intorduced in 156 then improved on the later introduced 147 and GT. In effect it uses this to send instruction signals back and forth. Thus CANCHECK when it is unable to communicate like not getting a response.

Your issue could be lots of things but for a start it may just be your radio is not connected to the system/power supply. And therefore check things related to that like, original radio (if not then plugs incompatable)? Blown fuse? Unplugged by someone that did some dash work and forgot to reconnect etc.

thanks ill try a few of those suggestions.
just another quick question . The CANCHECK is coming up on the radio not the dash display. But ill have a look at the back of the radio and check the plugs.
I read on another forum (fiat) that the punto comes up with CANCHECK when you change the radio for a newer version. Something to do with not being compatible with the body computer.
Theres supposedly a chip in the radio that can be removed to bypass this.
but ill first see if I can figure it out.
thanks
